SHARH ON THE 40 HADEETH OF IMAM AN NAWAWI: HADITH NUMBER 5

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Hadeeth Number 5

SHARH OF THE 40 HADEETH OF NUMBER 5

03.10.2012 (Night Dars)

HADITH 5

«

On the authority of the mother of the faithful, Aaishah (RA), who said: The Messenger of Allah (
) said, "He who innovates something in this matter of ours [i.e., Islam] that is not of it will have it rejected [by Allah]." Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim
In one version by Muslim it reads: "He, who does an act which we have not commanded, will have it rejected [by Allah]."

Before explaining the hadith in details, a look at Aisha

-she is narrator of hadith number five
-Aisha means someone who is lively and full of life
-married to the prophet (saw) at young age and became a scholar of Islam
-there is confusion/conflict on age of marriage between scholars and historians
-a hadith in Bukhari said she got married at age 9
-this conflict will go on and on
-shaikh takes sides with the historians on this issue

Aisha took part in the battle of Uhud, pouring water no the mujahids

Narrated Anas: On the day of the battle of Uhud, the people ran away, leaving the Prophet, but Abu-Talha was shielding the Prophet with his shield in front of him. Abu Talha was a strong, experienced archer who used to keep his arrow bow strong and well stretched. On that day he broke two or three arrow bows. If any man passed by carrying a quiver full of arrows, the Prophet would say to him, "Empty it in front of Abu Talha." When the Prophet started looking at the enemy by raising his head, Abu Talha said, "O Allah's Prophet! Let my parents be sacrificed for your sake! Please don't raise your head and make it visible, lest an arrow of the enemy should hit you. Let my neck and chest be wounded instead of yours." (On that day) I saw `Aisha, the daughter of Abu Bakr and Um Sulaim both lifting their dresses up so that I was able to see the ornaments of their legs, and they were carrying the water skins of their arms to pour the water into the mouths of the thirsty people and then go back and fill them and come to pour the water into the mouths of the people again. (On that day) Abu Talha's sword fell from his hand twice or thrice. [Sahih Bukhari (5/37) No. 3811]

-it is a well- known fact that Prophet did not take kids with him to the battlefield
-Bukhari says that Aisha took part in the battle of Uhud, so she must be a full grown woman

Ibn Umar (RA) narrated: I was presented before Allah’s Messenger (
) for the army when I was fourteen years old. But, he did not enlist me. Then, the next year I was presented to him for the army being fifteen years and he took me. Nafi’ said: I narrated this hadith to Umar ibn Abdul Aziz and he said, “The limit between a minor and a major (is this).” Then he wrote (to his officers) that those who attain the age of fifteen may be given share in spoils of war. [Al-Bukhari (2664) and Muslim (1868)]

The prophet (
) turned back 15 year olds so how could he take a 9 year old to the battle

-this doesn’t stand up to scrutiny
-the books on Aisha said she was born 612C.E some say 610C.E
-they can't make up their minds
-there was no registrar

So her birthday is confusing
-the hijra of rasool (
) was 622C.E
-this would mean she was 12 years old when she migrated
-14 when consummated
-the matter needs proper research, instead of believing what you hear
-do your own research

Tabari and ibn Kathir said that Asma, sister of Aisha migrated when she was 27
-and she was 10 years older that Aisha
-so the prophet took her to Uhud because she was full grown and not a child
-she must have been 19 or 20
-the idea that the prophet would take 9 year olds to battle does not make sense

The narrator of the hadith about her age became old and senile

THE TEN MERITS OF AISHA

Narrated By 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle
said (to me), "You were shown to me twice in (my) dream. Behold, a man was carrying you in a silken piece of cloth and said to me, "She is your wife, so uncover her,' and behold, it was you. I would then say (to myself), 'If this is from Allah, then it must happen.'" [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 87, Hadith #139]

1) The angel Jibril presented her in a dream to the Prophet

2) She was the only virgin wife

3) The rasool passed away on her laps

4) The revelation would come down to the prophet in her bed

...the Prophet
said, "O Um Salama! Don't trouble me by harming `Aisha, for by Allah, the Divine Inspiration never came to me while I was under the blanket of any woman amongst you except her." [Sahih Bukhari (5/30) No. 3775]

-why didn’t revelation come down while he was with other wives?
-Because she was a virgin, her bed was pure

5) She was the daughter of his closest companion

6) She was the daughter of the first caliph, the successor of the prophet

7) She was his favourite wife

8) She was the greatest scholar of Islam to ever live

She was able to memorise the knowledge because of her youth

-3 wives memorised the Quran:
Aisha, umm Salama and Hafsa

9) She was extremely charitable to strangers and she kept close ties of kinship

Narrated By Jubair bin Mut'im: That he heard the Prophet
saying, "The person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise." [al-Bukhari (5984) and Muslim (2556)]

10) She was extremely brave and had the love for the battlefield

-she asked to go to battle but the prophet told her the jihad of a woman is to make hajj

Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I said: "O Messenger of Allah
! We consider Jihad as the best deed, should we not then go for Jihad?" The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "The best Jihad for you women is Hajj Mabrur (i.e., one accepted by Allah)." [Al-Bukhari].

THE DARK DAYS IN THE LIFE OF AISHA

The first dark day was the ifk: when the hypocrites slandered her and said she had an affair

Verily! Those who brought forth the slander (against 'Aishah the wife of the Prophet
) are a group among you. Consider it not a bad thing for you. Nay, it is good for you. Unto every man among them will be paid that which he had earned of the sin, and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be a great torment. (An-Nur 24:11)

-surah 24:11 was revealed to say she was wrongly accused

The other dark day is when Uthman was killed
-when Uthman was killed Ali became caliph.
-Aisha asked him to take revenge for Uthman’s death
-but Ali said he needed to investigate more before doing that

Aisha gave a public speech and got the people to march against Ali,
-because he was taking too long to make a judgement
-Ali’s army defeated her army
-she wanted someone else to be the caliph that was why she marched against Ali

Talha had a liking for Aisha
-he would say when the prophet died Aisha would be his
-the prophet was alive when Talha made the statement
-but the prophet (saw) did not move on him, he understood human nature
Allah revealed that no one is allowed to marry prophet’s wives after he passes away
-the prophet didn't like to tell his sahabah off
-but the shites have their own history
-they believed that Aisha hated Ali because when she was accused, Ali was not there for her

...Usama bin Zaid told Allah's Apostle of what he knew about the innocence of his wife and of his affection he kept for her. He said, "O Allah's Apostle! She is your wife, and we do not know anything about her except good." But 'Ali bin Abi Talib said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allah does not impose restrictions on you; and there are plenty of women other than her. If you however, ask (her) slave girl, she will tell you the truth."... [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 6, Book 60, Hadith #274]

-the Shiites try to say that they knew what Aisha was thinking.
-when Uthman was stabbed his blood fell on an ayat of the Quran.

So Allāh will suffice you against them. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah 2:137)

They said that Uthman was practicing nepotism/ favouritism with his family

-they stabbed him when he was reciting the Quran
-Uthman’s wife came to his rescue but got some fingers cut off

Ali was trying to find out what happened.
-Aisha wasn’t satisfied and led an army against Ali,
-her co wife wrote a letter to tell her it is for men not women to do this
-but she went ahead with the army
-she dies in medina in 678C.E at the age of 66

We spoke about Aisha because she was the one who narrated the hadith
-this hadith is talking about bid’ah
-a cursed innovation
-the rasool (saw) said if you live long you will see differences
-so hold on the Sunnah

...Those of you who survive will see many discords. Beware; refrain from innovations in religion, for that is error. So, he of you who encounters that must adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs. All of you should hold that firmly with your teeth.” [Tirmidhi 2685, Ahmed 17145, Abu Dawud 4607, Ibn Majah 42]

-people introduce matters into the deen for corrupted desires
-some believe Islam is boring so let’s spice it up
-they add things to Islam
-there are people who believe that Islam is too difficult, so let us subtract from it
-23:71 warns of this
And if the truth had been in accordance with their desires, verily, the heavens and the earth, and whosoever is therein would have been corrupted! Nay, We have brought them their reminder, but they turn away from their reminder. (Al-Mu'minun 23:71)

Do not underestimate the evil desires of people

-they allow same sex marriage and open animal brothels

ANIMAL BROTHELS LEGAL IN DENMARK: Click

-it is better to overestimate the evil of your enemy

Bid’ah means to start something new; what the prophet (
) did not legislate
-you are not allowed to subtract from Islam
-because Allah says that He neglected nothing in the book

There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered. (Al-An'am 6:38)

Say (O Muhammad
to mankind): "If you (really) love Allāh then follow me (i.e. accept Islāmic Monotheism, follow the Qur'ān and the Sunnah), Allāh will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allāh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Aali Imran 3:31)

He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad
), has indeed obeyed Allāh, but he who turns away, then we have not sent you (O Muhammad ) as a watcher over them. (An-Nisa 4:80)

-the people of bid’ah were asked by Allah in surah 49:16

Say: "Will you inform Allāh about your religion? While Allāh knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allāh is All-Aware of everything. (Al-Hujurat 49:16)

-those who add and subtract from Islam are asked this

The priests and nuns are practicing bid’ah 57:27

But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them, but (they sought it) only to please Allāh therewith, but that they did not observe it with the right observance. So We gave those among them who believed, their (due) reward, but many of them are Fāsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allāh). (Al-Hadid 57:27)

-Allah says they went to the extreme
-they stay away from marriage for life-but dabble in paedophilia and homosexuality

The deen is perfect so do not add or subtract to it

This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islām as your religion. But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these above-mentioned meats), then surely, Allāh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-Ma'idah 5:3)

This is because of that (evil) which your hands have sent before you. And certainly, Allāh is never unjust to (His) slaves. (Aali Imran 3:182)

Allāh burdens not a person beyond his scope(Al-Baqarah 2:286) not 2:186

O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allāh and His Messenger (
), and fear Allāh. Verily! Allāh is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Al-Hujurat 49:1)

-surrender to Quran and Sunnah

There is bid’ah in regards to aqeeda/fiqh/manhaj/ibaadah
-the worst bid’ah is in regards to aqeeda
-aqeeda affects sharia
-ma’ moon a Mu’tazilite believed that Quran was created
-he flogged those who didn’t believe this like Ahmad ibn Hanbal

To implement sharia little by little is bid’ah in regards to manhaj
-the Quran is revealed we are not waiting for more revelation
-when Umar suspended cutting the thieves’ hands because of famine he did maslahah
-it was in the public interest
-because there was famine in the land

'Abdur Rahman bin 'Abdul Qari said, "I went out in the company of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found the people praying in different groups. A man praying alone or a man praying with a little group behind him. So, 'Umar said, 'In my opinion I would better collect these (people) under the leadership of one Qari (Reciter) (i.e. let them pray in congregation!)'. So, he made up his mind to congregate them behind Ubai bin Ka'b. Then on another night I went again in his company and the people were praying behind their reciter. On that, 'Umar remarked, What an excellent Bid'a (i.e. innovation in religion) this is; but the prayer which they do not perform, but sleep at its time is better than the one they are offering.' He meant the prayer in the last part of the night. (In those days) people used to pray in the early part of the night." [Sahih Bukhari (3/45) No. 2010]

-when Umar put taraweeh under one imam it was not bid’ah, it was maslahah

No jihad without a caliph is bid’ah in regards to fiqh and can become bid’ah in regards to aqeeda

And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad
) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers' way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination. (An-Nisa 4:115)

-when a MADkhali says to dismantle the sharia is minor kufr
-this is bid’ah in regards to aqeeda
-and he goes against the ijmaa of the ummah

So Whosoever abandons the wise Shariah which was revealed upon Muhammed ibn Abdullah, the seal of the prophets, and goes to other abrogated Shariah for judgment, he becomes a Kaafir. So how about the one who goes to al-Yaasiq (man-made law) for judgment and gives it precedence (over the Sharia of Muhammed (saw)? Whosoever does this has become a Kaafir by the Ijma of the Muslims. Ibn Kathir, Al-Bidayah Wan-Nihayah, Vol 13, p119

-when a Saudi salafi says that you are not a kafir until you make it halal with your tongue,
-that is bid’ah in regards to aqeeda

Shaikh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn 'Abdullaah Ibn Baaz said: "There is no Emaan for the one who believes the laws of the people and their opinions are superior to the Hukm of Allah and His Messenger or that they are equal to it or that they resemble it or who leaves it or replaces it with fabricated laws and institutions invented by people, even if he believes that the laws of Allah are more encompassing and more just." [Wujoob Tah'keem Sharee'ah Allah' (pg. 16-17)]

-even ibn Baz did not have this aqeeda
-the moment you dismantle the sharia you are a kafir

The belief that emaan is static is bid’ah in regards to aqeeda
-the belief that our actions are not part of our emaan is bid’ah in aqeeda

Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them." But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: "Allāh (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)." (Aali Imran 3:173)

And whenever there comes down a Sûrah (chapter from the Qur'ān), some of them (hypocrites) say: "Which of you has had his Faith increased by it?" As for those who believe, it has increased their Faith, and they rejoice. (At-Tawbah 9:124)

The excuse given to a man who worships false deity is bid’ah in aqeeda

-praying to graves and tawaaf around them is bid’ah in ibaadah, and takes you outside Islam
-to do tawassul on the prophet is bid’ah in ibaadah
-celebrate prophets birthday is bid’ah in fiqh

And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify," lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: "Verily, we have been unaware of this." (Al-A'raf 7:172)

Narrated By 'Aisha and 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas: Allah's Apostle said: "May Allah curse the Jews and Christians for they built the places of worship at the graves of their Prophets." The Prophet was warning (Muslims) of what those had done. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book 8, Hadith #427]

Jabir (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (
) forbade that graves should be plastered and that anything should be inscribed thereon and that a structure should be raised on them and that they should be trodden on. [Muslim 970, Abu Dawud 3225, Tirmidhi 1054, Nisai 2023]

-a monument over saints’ graves is bid’ah in ibaadah

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ata ibn Yasar that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "O Allah! Do not make my grave an idol that is worshipped. The anger on those who took the graves of their Prophets as places of prostration was terrible." [Muwatta Malik (1/223) No. 570, Musannaf Abdur Razzaq (1/406) No. 1587, Musnad Ahmad (2/246) No. 7352]

-khatam death anniversary is bid’ah in fiqh

-dance in Soofi masjids is bid’ah in fiqh

Narrated By 'Aisha: I purchased a cushion with pictures on it. The Prophet
(came and) stood at the door but did not enter. I said (to him), "I repent to Allah for what (the guilt) I have done." He said, "What is this cushion?" I said, "It is for you to sit on and recline on." He said, "The makers of these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to them, 'Make alive what you have created.' Moreover, the angels do not enter a house where there are pictures.'" [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 7, Book 72, Hadith #840]

-pictures of shaikhs hung in houses are bid’ah in fiqh
-to pray on piece of Karbala’s earth is bid’ah in ibaadah

Aisha narrated the Messenger of Allah (
) said: "Those who give respect to a bid'ati (innovator in Religion) surely will be counted as a helper of destroying Islam." [al-Tabarani in 'al-Mu’jam al-Awsat' (7/35) No. 6772 and al-Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Emaan' (12/57) No. 9018]

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: "It is not known that anyone used to wipe his face after making du’aa’ except al-Hasan." [Al-‘Ilal al-Mutanaahiyah, 2/840, 841]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (rh) said: "With regard to the Prophet (
) raising his hands when saying du’aa’, there are many saheeh ahaadeeth concerning this, but as for his wiping his face with his hands, there are only one or two hadeeths concerning that, and they cannot be taken as evidence." [Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (22/519)]

al-‘Izz ibn ‘Abd al-Salaam said: "No one wipes his face with his hands after saying du’aa’ except one who is ignorant." [Fataawa al-‘Izz ibn ‘Abd al-Salaam, (p. 47)]

-to wipe face after dua is bid’ah in ibaadah
-to say ya Ali ya Hassan is bid’ah in regards to ibaadah and is shirk
-to make dua after every congregational prayer is bid’ah in ibaadah
-the prophet did not make dua after every salah

Some communities India and Pakistan think salah is bautil if dua not made after it
-they think the dua is part of the salah
-and shaking hands after salah is also bid’ah in ibaadah
-they will think shaking hands is part of the salah

Adding sentences to adhan is bid’ah in ibaadah
-the Shiites add to the adhan

Albani said if you insult Muhammad (
) you are not a kaffir
-this is bid’ah in regards to aqeeda

Al-Albani: (We don’t think this accurate is in absolute sense, because it is possible that this insult (sabb) or reviling (satam) is the result of ignorance, bad upbringing, negligence, And lastly it could be with intent and knowledge, and in that case, it is a clear apostasy, of which there's no doubt. But if it carries either of the former situations which I pointed at. Then it's best Islamic to refrain from takfir than to rush towards it.)Source: Silsilat al-Huda wa al-Nur, tape nr. 820, min. 46:03).

Al-Imam Ishaq Ibn Rahawayh said: (All Muslims are in consensus that whoever curses Allah or curses His Messenger, or rejects something from what Allah revealed, or killed a prophet, that he is a kafir; and even if he accept what was revealed by Allah. And Al-Khattabi said, "I don't know of anyone who disagrees with the obligation of his killing."

And Muhammad Ibn Sahnun said that the scholars are in consensus that the one who curses the Messenger is a Kafir; and whoever doubts his Kufr is a Kafir.) Taken from (Kitab al-Sarim al-Maslul 'ala satim al-Rasul, by Ibn Taymiyya)

Using wind and music instruments in religious gatherings is bid’ah in fiqh

-calling people to sharia in darul harb is bid’ah in manhaj

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet sent Muadh to Yemen, he said to him, "You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allah. If they learn that, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers to be offered in one day and one night. And if they pray, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them Zakat of their properties and it is to be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor. And if they agree to that, then take from them Zakat but avoid the best property of the people." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 93, Hadith #469]

To say Muhammad (
) was Noor and not Bashar is bid’ah in aqeeda
-to say Muhammad is alive with his faculties in his grave bid’ah in aqeeda

Say (O Muhammad
): "I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your Ilāh (God) is One Ilāh (God i.e. Allāh). So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord." (Al-Kahf 18:110)

Verily, you (O Muhammad
) will die and verily, they (too) will die. (Az-Zumar 39:30)

To say the throne of Allah means the glory of Allah is bid’ah in aqeeda

And the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them. (Al-Haqqah 69:17)

Narrated Abu Said: The Prophet
said, 'People will be struck unconscious on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first to regain consciousness, and behold! There I will see Moses holding one of the pillars of Allah's Throne. I will wonder whether he has become conscious before me of he has been exempted, because of his unconsciousness at the Tur (mountain) which he received (on the earth)." [Sahih Bukhari (4/153) No. 3398]

-to establish kingship in Islam is bid’ah in manhaj
-to say when a man commits zina or drinks alcohol he becomes a kaffir is bid’ah in aqeeda
-to say Allah created the heavens and the earth for Muhammad is bid’ah in aqeeda

FABRICATED HADITH: “When Adam sinned, Allah told him to seek forgiveness in the name of Muhammad, then Allah said to him: Had it not been for Muhammad I wouldn’t create the heavens and the earth. I Allah created the heavens and the earth for the sake of Muhammad."

-to recite Quran over dead bodies is bid’ah in fiqh
-praying to grave inhabitants and asking for things is bid’ah and makes you a kaffir

Ibn Taymiyyah said (when refuting the view of those who quoted ‘Umar’s words “What a good innovation this is” as meaning that innovation (bid’ah) is permissible): "With regard to qiyaam in Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah (
) introduced this to his ummah, and he led them in prayer for a number of nights, because at his time they used to pray in congregation and individually. But he did not persist in leading them in one congregation, lest that be made obligatory for them. When the Prophet () died, shariah was established (and would not change after that). When ‘Umar (RA) became caliph, he united them behind one imam, Ubayy ibn Ka’b, who united the people in one congregation on the orders of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA). ‘Umar (RA) was one of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, of whom the Prophet () said: “I urge you to adhere to my Sunnah and the way of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs after me; cling tightly to it.” So what he did was Sunnah but he said, “What a good innovation this is,” because it was an innovation in the linguistic sense, as they were doing something that they had not done during the life of the Messenger of Allah (SAW), i.e., gathering to do this, but it is Sunnah in the shar’i sense.” [Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (22/234-235)]

IS THERE SUCH A THING AS BIDAH HASANA?

-there is no such thing as a good bid’ah
-prophet said every bid’ah is a going astray
-to build a minaret is called maslahah (public interest) it identifies the masjid
-when you establish a bid’ah the curse of the people who practise it falls on you
-when you establish a Sunnah you get the blessing of those who practise it

The Messenger of Allah (
) said: 'Whoever starts a good thing in Islam, and others do likewise after him, there will be written for him a reward like that of those who followed him, without it detracting in the least from their reward. Whoever starts a bad thing in Islam, and others do likewise after him, there will be written for him a burden of sin like that of those who followed him, without it detracting in the least from their burden.'" [Sahih Muslim (4/2059) No. 1017]

Imam Ahmad (bin Hanbal) said that "The principles of Islam are based on three hadith: the hadith of 'Umar that "deeds are judged only by intention," the hadith of 'A'isha, "Whoever introduces into our affairs that which does not belong, it is rejected," and the hadith of al-Nu'man b. Bashir, "The licit is clear and the illicit is clear." [Jama' ul-Uloom al-Hukum, Ibn Rajab (1/61)]

SHARH ON THE 40 HADEETH OF IMAM AN NAWAWI: HADITH NUMBER 4

                                                بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

- Hadeeth Number 4

SHARH OF THE 40 HADEETH NUMBER 4:
''EMBRYOLOGY IN QUR’AN AND SUNNAH''

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (RA), who said: The Messenger of Allah (
), and he is the truthful, the believed, narrated to us, "Verily the creation of each one of you is brought together in his mother’s womb for forty days in the form of a nutfah (a drop), then he becomes an alaqah (clot of blood) for a like period, then a mudghah (morsel of flesh) for a like period, then there is sent to him the angel who blows his soul into him and who is commanded with four matters: to write down his rizq (sustenance), his life span, his actions, and whether he will be happy or unhappy (i.e., whether or not he will enter Paradise). By the One, other than Whom there is no deity, verily one of you performs the actions of the people of Paradise until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, and so he acts with the actions of the people of the Hellfire and thus enters it; and verily one of you performs the actions of the people of the Hellfire, until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him and so he acts with the actions of the people of Paradise and thus he enters it." It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas`ood (r.a)

The biography of Abdullah ibn Mas`ood

-as a boy, he was a shepherd in Makkah working for Uqbah ibn Mu'eet
-he was the 6th person to embrace Islam
-therefore he was of al-muhajiroon (those early of our ummah)

When he embraced Islam, he abandoned his work for the service of Muhammad (
)
-he was then known as the man who carried the sandals of the Rasool (
) - "sahib an-na'lain"
-he was loved for his sincerity and taqwa
-and the Prophet treated him as his family
-so many thought he was from ahlul-bayt
-the Rasool (pbuh) treated those who worked for him as family members

Abu Musa reported: When I and my brother came from Yemen we used to consider Ibn Mas'ud and his mother amongst the members of the household of Allah's Messenger (
) because of their visiting them frequently and staying there for long (periods of) time. [Sahih Muslim, Book 31, Hadith #6017]

He was blessed with a sweet voice;

-people cried when they heard his recitation of al Qur'an

On the authority of Alqama who said: A man who came to Umar Ibn al-Khattab as he was standing on the plain of Arafat and said: ‘I have come, O Amir al-Mumineen, from Kufa where I left a man filling copies of the Qur’aan from memory.’ Umar became very angry and paced up and down beside his camel, fuming. ‘Who is he?’ he asked. ‘Abdullah Ibn Masood,’ replied the man. Umar's anger subsided and he regained his composure. ‘Woe to you,’ he said to the man. ‘By Allah, I don't know of any person left who is more qualified in this matter than he is. Let me tell you about this.’ Umar continued: ‘One night the Messenger of Allah (
) was having a conversation with Abu Bakr about the situation of Muslims. I was with them. When the Prophet () left, we left with him also and as we passed through the mosque, there was a man standing in Prayer whom we did not recognise. The Prophet () stood and listened to him, then turned to us and said, “Whoever wants to read the Qur’an as fresh as when it was revealed, then let him read according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd.” After the Prayer, as Abdullah sat making supplications, the Prophet () said, “Ask and it will be given to you. Ask and it will be given to you.” I said to myself, I should go to Abdullah Ibn Masood straight away and tell him the good news of the Prophet’s () ensuring acceptance of his supplications. I went and did so but found that Abu Bakr had gone before me and conveyed the good news to him. By Allah, I have never yet beaten Abu Bakr in the doing of any good.’ [Mustadrak al-Haakim (2/246) No. 2893, ad-Dhahabee Classified it Sahih on the conditions of Bukhari and Muslim]

The Prophet said to learn the Qur'an from 4 people:

Narrated by Masruq, 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) was mentioned before 'Abdullah bin 'Amr. The latter said, "That is a man I continue to love because I heard Allah's Apostle
saying, ' learn the recitation of the Qur'an from (any of these) four persons: 'Abdullah bin Masud, Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubai bin Kab, and Muadh bin Jabal." I do not remember whether he mentioned Ubai first or Muadh. [Sahih Bukhari (5/27) No. 3758]

1. Abdullah ibn Mas’ood

2. Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa
3. Ubai ibn Ka’ab
4. Muadh ibn Jabal

Ibn Mas’ood fought in every battle alongside the Prophet (
)
-he was known for his bravery
-he said he would be the one to recite Qur'an in front of the kuffaar,
-but would get beaten by them profusely
-he was the 1st man to recite in the precincts of the Ka’ba

On the authority of Sha'bee who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was on a night's journey and he saw a caravan and the night was pitch black. He told a man to call them. They were asked: "Where are you coming from?" Abdullah ibn Masood answered and said: "We are coming from fajj Ameeq - the Deep Valley referring to an ayah of the Holy Quran (Surah 22:27)." They were then asked: "And where are you going?" Ibn Masood said: "Bayt Ateeq, referring to the Quranic name for the Ka'bah 'The Ancient House'." Umar then said: "Verily there's a scholar amongst you." So Umar ordered a man to ask them: "Which part of the Quran is the greatest?" Ibn Masood replied: "He is Allah other than whom there's no god, the Ever-Living. (ayatul kursee)." Then they were asked: "Which part of the Quran is most clear in justice?" Ibn Masood replied: "Verily Allah has commanded that we do justice and be proficient in doing our duties (Surah 16:90)." Then Umar asked them: "Which part of the Quran is most profound." Ibn Masood answered: "Whosoever did an atoms weight of good shall see it then (Surah 99:7-8)." Then Umar asked them: "Which part of the Quran gives the most hope?" Ibn Masood replied: "Say O My servants who have wronged themselves by committing sins do not give up from the mercy of Allah. (Surah 39:53)." Umar then asked them: "Is Abdullah ibn Masood with you?" The people in the caravan said: "By Allah yes."' [Majmua Takhreej al-Din al-Maqdisi (pg. 7) No. 6]

Verily, Allāh enjoins Al-Adl (i.e. justice and worshipping none but Allāh Alone - Islāmic Monotheism) and Al-Ihsān [i.e. to be patient in performing your duties to Allāh, totally for Allāh's sake and in accordance with the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet
in a perfect manner], and giving (help) to kith and kin (i.e. all that Allāh has ordered you to give them e.g., wealth, visiting, looking after them, or any other kind of help, etc.): and forbids Al-Fahshā' (i.e all evil deeds, e.g. illegal sexual acts, disobedience of parents, polytheism, to tell lies, to give false witness, to kill a life without right, etc.), and Al-Munkar (i.e all that is prohibited by Islāmic law: polytheism of every kind, disbelief and every kind of evil deeds, etc.), and Al-Baghy (i.e. all kinds of oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take heed. (An-Nahl 16:90)

So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. (7)
And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.(8) (Az-Zalzalah 99:7-8)

Say: "O 'Ibādī (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allāh, verily Allāh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Az-Zumar 39:53)

Ibn Mas'ood said no ayah was revealed that he didn't know about or where it was sent down

Narrated By 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud): By Allah other than Whom none has the right to be worshipped! There is no Surah revealed in Allah's Book but I know at what place it was revealed; and there is no Verse revealed in Allah's Book but I know about whom it was revealed. And if I know that there is somebody who knows Allah's Book better than I, and he is at a place that camels can reach, I would go to him. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 6, Book 61, Hadith #524]

-he worked for Umar who wanted to pay him but he preferred not to take a salary

The Prophet
said:

On the authority of Ali (RA) the Messenger of Allah (
) said: "If I am to chose anyone as a leader (Ameer) without consulting the Muslims, it would be Ibn Umm 'Abd (Ibn Masood)." [Musnad Ahmad (1/76) No. 566]

Ibn Mas'ood migrated to Ethiopia twice and then to Madina

-he was a humble and meek Sahabi without a strong tribe to back him

Why wasn't Bilal sent to Ethiopia?
-because Quraish would said they were runaway slaves

On his deathbed, he said he wanted forgiveness of his sins
-he'd refused a salary and Uthman wanted to give his past salaries to his many daughters

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported that the Prophet (
) said, ‘Whoever recites surah al Waqiah at night would never encounter poverty’ [Ibn as-Sunni 620, Bayhaqi]

-he died 34 years after the hijrah of the Rasool (pbuh)
-he was born to teach and he taught even on his deathbed

SHARH OF THIS HADEETH NUMBER 4

The nutfah means sperm mixed with ovum
-these are the fluid discharges from man and woman when conceiving

Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer. (Al-Insan 76:2)

Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), (Al-'Alaq 96:1)

Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). (Al-'Alaq 96:2
)

-ova are larger than sperm
-a baby resembles the parent who ejaculated first upon conception
-this hadeeth is talking about embryology
-which is the development of the baby in the womb of the mother

The alaqah is like a leech, clinging on to the womb of the woman
-Dr Keith Moore is a leading doctor in Embryology (he's from Toronto, CA)
-he stated that Muhammad (pbuh) living in the 7th century, in a desert,
-would have this knowledge only from receiving revelation from his Lord (swt)
-in his book, THE DEVELOPING HUMAN, he said the Qur'an helped him write his book

Keith L. Moore {Click]

Correlation of Qur'an and Embryology: Click

The alaqah sucks blood from the placenta, so it's very powerful
-the behavior is exactly like a leech

Joe Leigh Simpson, a leading scientist, also said of Muhammad (
)
-that he needed a very powerful microscope
-for him to be so specific of his descriptions of the embryo

So let man see from what he is created! (5) He is created from a water gushing forth (6) Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, (7) (At-Tariq 86:5-7)

The Qur'an is so specific that is explains from where the sperm gushes

-yet Muhammad (
) was not a scientist, so he had divine revelation

Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer. (Al-Insan 76:2)

Some people frown when a woman gives birth to a girl

-but this is the fault of the man because he determines the sex of the child
-because of the type of chromosome he releases [X for woman and Y for boy]
-this is Allah's hikma

The fetus goes through 3 layers of development:

And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth). (Al-Mu'minun 23:12)

Thereafter We made him (the offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah (mixed drops of the male and female sexual discharge) (and lodged it) in a safe lodging (womb of the woman). (Al-Mu'minun 23:13)

Then We made the Nutfah into a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood), then We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then We brought it forth as another creation. So blessed be Allāh, the Best of creators. (Al-Mu'minun 23:14)

Nutfah - sperm mixed with the ovum

-the male and female sensual discharges are lodged in a safe place, the womb
-then the nutfah becomes a clot [alaqah] which clings on to the womb
-getting its blood from the placenta
-the word "alaq" impressed the scientists because it was a specific word, not general

From the clot forms a lump of flesh, then with bones

Professor Marshall Johnson, from TJ University (PA)

-a scientist who was also impressed with Muhammad (saw)
-he said he had divine intervention

The fetus can hear after 24 weeks
-after 28 weeks, it develops sight where the retina becomes sensitive to light
-hearing comes first and then sight

Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? (1) Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer. (2) (Al-Insan 76:1-2)

SUGGESTIONS:

a) Don’t upset your wife when she is pregnant because the child will take on the traits of the mother during her pregnancy

QUESTION: IS ABORTION ALLOWED IN ISLAM?

ANSWER:

Hanbali madhab - it is allowed during the first 40 days of pregnancy
-this is NOT a liberal madhab
-if a woman is raped, you can't tell her she must give birth to the child
-or she will hate that child
-so we promote abortion - full stop - and we make no qualms about it

QUESTION: IS MORNING AFTER PILLS PERMITTED?
YES

Abortion is halal during the first 6 weeks of pregnancy
-the ruh was not blown into the child yet
-because the baby is an alaqah before the 6 weeks of pregnancy

I don't know why people make a big issue about abortion
-we don't know what circumstances caused her to get pregnant
-maybe she was raped by a family member

QUESTION: IS SURROGACY ALLOWED IN ISLAM?

ANSWER:

-surrogacy is HARAM because of its implications & ramifications
-see 58:2

Those among you who make their wives unlawful (Az-Zihār) to them by saying to them "You are like my mother's back." They cannot be their mothers. None can be their mothers except those who gave them birth. And verily, they utter an ill word and a lie. And verily, Allāh is Oft-Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving. (Al-Mujadilah 58:2)

Surrogacy is sperm mixed with ovum, mixed in a lab,

-and then implanted in the womb of another woman
-you're 'renting' her womb for 9 months
-she's paid to carry this baby
-the scholars who say this is haram argue that
-the surrogate mother might become emotionally attached to the baby
-who'd get custody? The one who carried the baby or the one who is biologically the mother
-the baby would grow up confused, feeling it has two mothers

The 2nd group of scholars says surrogacy is HALAL
-because it’s the right of every couple to have kids
-they said since its halal to hire a wet-nurse to give suck to a baby, surrogacy is also halal

To Allāh belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female (offspring) upon whom He wills, and bestows male (offspring) upon whom He wills. (Ash-Shura 42:49)

Or He bestows both males and females, and He renders barren whom He wills. Verily, He is the All-Knower and is Able to do all things. (Ash-Shura 42:50)

WHAT IS THE CORRECT OPINION?
-if the man has two wives and one wife carries the baby for the other wife, this is halal
-otherwise it is haram

There are 3 layers of development - the nutfah, the alaqah, mudghah
-and the angel comes in the first 40 days of development
-to write down the child's livelihood, his lifespan and disposition
-these are all part of Allah's qadr

DESTINY - we can do things to improve it
-sometimes we suffer poverty because of sin (example)

It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah (
) said: "Nothing increases one's life span except righteousness and nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication, and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits."' [Sunan Ibn Majah (5/152) No. 4022, Musnad Ahmad (5/277) No. 22440, Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/670) No. 1814, Sahih Ibn Hibban (3/153) No. 872, al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Nasa'i (10/380) No. 11775]

-if you want to live a rich, long life, keep your family ties

Anas Ibn Malik narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (
) say: “Whoever would like his provision to be increased and his lifespan to be extended, let him uphold the ties of kinship.” [al-Bukhari (2067) and Muslim (2557)]

Narrated By Jubair bin Mut'im: That he heard the Prophet (
) saying, "The person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise." [Al-Bukhari (5984) and Muslim (2556)]

And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad), (An-Najm 53:39)

Verily! Allāh will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allāh). But when Allāh wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector. (Ra'd 13:11)

Allah 'tala never takes away prosperity unless you abandon your deen

LIFESPAN
-some of you believe it is fixed
-if you believe this, Shaikh will refute you

Narrated By Abu Huraira: The angel of death was sent to Moses and when he went to him, Moses slapped him severely, spoiling one of his eyes. The angel went back to his Lord, and said, "You sent me to a slave who does not want to die." Allah restored his eye and said, "Go back and tell him (i.e. Moses) to place his hand over the back of an ox, for he will be allowed to live for a number of years equal to the number of hairs coming under his hand." (So the angel came to him and told him the same). Then Moses asked, "O my Lord! What will be then?" He said, "Death will be then." He said, "(Let it be) now." He asked Allah that He bring him near the Sacred Land at a distance of a stone's throw. Allah's Apostle (
) said, "Were I there I would show you the grave of Moses by the way near the red sand hill." [al-Bukhari (1339) and Muslim (2372)]

If the lifespan is fixed, why is it that Adam was able to change his mind?

-lifespan is destiny, not predestination
-by you finding a wife it is destiny
-so if you do the conditions, you will find a pious wife
-if a calamity was written for you, it’s possible for you to wipe it out

Allāh blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills). And with Him is the Mother of the Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz) (Ra'd 13:39)

Salman (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (
) said, ‘Nothing averts the decree except supplication and nothing but piety prolongs life.” [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/448) No. 2139, Musnad Ahmad (5/280) No. 22466]

DISPOSITION:

-your amal is a part of your emaan
-if you're sincere, Allah 'tala will make it easier for you to do righteous deeds
-if you're a munafiq, you will not have the tawfiq (ability) to do righteousness
-your success with your amal is if you have TAQWAH

TAQWAH: to place between yourself and the wrath of Allah 'tala a barrier

And whosoever fears Allāh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). (At-Talaq 65:2)

And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allāh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allāh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allāh has set a measure for all things. (At-Talaq 65:3)

Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (
) said: "Faith has over seventy branches or over sixty branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the, removal of what is injurious from the path: and modesty is the branch of faith." [al-Bukhari (8) and Muslim (56)]

-you can become a kaafir with one amal, such as black magic, spying for kuffaar, insulting Allah 'tala or His Rasool (saws)
-the man who married his father's wife also died as a kaafir

Narrated By Al-Bara' ibn Azib: I met my uncle who was carrying a standard. I asked him: 'Where are you going?' He said: 'The Apostle of Allah (
) has sent me to a man who has married his father's wife. He has ordered me to cut off his head and take his property.' [Sunan Abu Dawud (4/157) No. 4457, Sunan al-Nasa'i (6/109) No. 3332, Sunan al-Darime (2/205) No. 2239, Musnad Ahmad (4/290) No. 18580]

And Allāh would never make your faith (prayers) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered towards Jerusalem). Truly, Allāh is full of kindness, the Most Merciful towards mankind. (Al-Baqarah 2:143)

-people become sad because they forget Allah 'tala

They have forgotten Allāh, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the Fāsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allāh). (At-Tawbah 9:67)

-sad people live their lives on PROZAC [anti-depressant tablets]
-the shaytan is their constant intimate companion

And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allāh) (i.e. this Qur'ān and worship of Allāh), We appoint for him Shaitān (Satan ¬ devil) to be a Qarīn (an intimate companion) to him. (Az-Zukhruf 43:36)

-these people hear voices, are schizophrenic or bipolar
-the mental diseases are because they forgot Allah so He (swt) forgets them

People are sad:

1) Because they forget Allah 'tala

2) They forget His (swt)’s deen

"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'ān nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection." (Ta-Ha 20:124)

He will say: "O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)." (Ta-Ha 20:125)

Two men were in New York looking at the Empire building

-they were smoking ganja and one man thought he own that tall building

The happiness of going to nightclubs, casinos, drinking is a lie
-some of you end up broke
-galis are men with a lot of girls
-jaahiliyyah gives everyone a raw deal
-it destroys you emotionally, financially,

The only road to happiness is to be on our deen?

Narrated By Abu Huraira (RA): The Prophet (
) said, "Riches does not mean, having a great amount of property, but riches is self-contentment." [al-Bukhari (6038) and Muslim (2287)]

By the One, other than Whom there is no deity, verily one of you performs the actions of the people of Paradise until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, and so he acts with the actions of the people of the Hellfire and thus enters it; and verily one of you performs the actions of the people of the Hellfire, until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him and so he acts with the actions of the people of Paradise and thus he enters it."It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Some of you will act like the people of paradise, till you're only away from it by one arm's length

-but you don't enter Paradise because, in the dunya, you backbite or accuse people falsely
-so these people will come to take away your good deeds on Judgment Day

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: Messenger of Allah (
) said, "Do you know who the bankrupt is?" They said: "The bankrupt among us is one who has neither money with him nor any property." He said, "The real bankrupt of my Ummah would be he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with Salat, Saum and Sadaqah (charity), (but he will find himself bankrupt on that day as he will have exhausted the good deeds) because he reviled others, brought calumny against others, unlawfully devoured the wealth of others, shed the blood of others and beat others; so his good deeds would be credited to the account of those (who suffered at his hand). If his good deeds fall short to clear the account, their sins would be entered in his account, and he would be thrown in the (Hell) Fire." [Sahih Muslim (4/1997) No. 2581]

Muflis - is a bankrupt person who comes with a mountain of good deeds on Judgment Day

-but because he was harming people in the dunya,
-Allah 'tala will take away his salah, zakah, sawm and hajj
-perhaps he never paid back borrowed money
