بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
AR-RUH
(THE HUMAN SOUL)
WHAT IS THE HUMAN SOUL?
-some
people claim it is the lump of flesh of the body or the blood
-Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ said
And they ask you (O Muhammad ﷺ)
concerning the Rûh (the Spirit); Say: "The Rûh (the Spirit): it is one of
the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you
(mankind) have been given only a little." (Al-Isra 17:85)
-in explaining the human soul Imam Qayyim Al
Jawziyaah gives the best explanation of the human soul
-it is the best comparison
-Imam Qayyim says the human soul is like the blue flame you use in a barbeque
-this is the best explanation amongst all the scholars
-so don’t go to any other scholar about the human soul
-without the flame in the fire coal the fire would be dead
-likewise if there was no soul in the body, the body would be lifeless
WHAT
WAS CREATED FIRST?
-the
most accurate explanation is the body was created first
-then an angel was sent with the soul
-the evidence is the hadith
On the authority of Abdullah ibn Masood (RA),
who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and
he is the truthful, the believed, narrated to us, "Verily the creation of
each one of you is brought together in his mother’s womb for forty days in the
form of a nutfah (a drop), then he becomes an alaqah (clot of blood) for a like
period, then a mudghah (morsel of flesh) for a like period, then there is sent
to him the angel who blows his soul into him and who is commanded with four
matters: to write down his rizq (sustenance), his life span, his actions, and
whether he will be happy or unhappy (i.e., whether or not he will enter
Paradise). By the One, other than Whom there is no deity, verily one of you
performs the actions of the people of Paradise until there is but an arm’s
length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, and
so he acts with the actions of the people of the Hellfire and thus enters it;
and verily one of you performs the actions of the people of
the Hellfire, until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, and that
which has been written overtakes him and so he acts with the actions of the
people of Paradise and thus he enters it." It was narrated by al-Bukhari
and Muslim.
-this is the evidence for Ahlus Sunnah wal
Jamma’ah
-the angel was sent to blow the ruh into the body
-the Hanbali use this evidence to allow abortion because the ruh is blown into
the body after 40 days
-they say it’s allowed at this stage because there is no soul before then
-but the issue of abortion, other Madhabs say it is not allowed
-but the Hanbalis say it is
THE HUMAN
SOUL IS NOT ETERNAL
-this is the view of Plato the philosopher
-Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ says:
Has there not been over man a period of time, when
he was nothing to be mentioned? (Al-Insan 76:1)
-therefore the human soul is created by Allah
-the word IHSAN = body and soul
Also Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
says:
Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the
Wakil (Trustee, Disposer of affairs, Guardian, etc.) over all things. (Az-Zumar
39:62)
-only Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) was
not created, Allah has no beginning and no ending
-Allah created 4 things with his hands
1. The Arsh (Throne)
2. The Qalam (Pen)
3. Adam
4. Paradise
-everything else Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said be and it is
It was authentically reported that ‘Abdullah ibn
‘Umar said: “Allaah created four things with His Hand; 1. The Throne 2. The Pen
3. Aadam and 4. The paradise of ‘Adn. He then said to the rest of the creation
‘Kun’ [Be] and it was.” Adh Dhahabi stated in ‘Al ‘Uluw’: ‘It’s chain is good.’
Al Albaani stated in ‘Mukhtasar al ‘Uluw’ P.105: ‘The chain is authentic
according to the conditions of Muslim.’
THERE
ARE FIVE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE BODY AND THE SOUL
-if
knowledge is not classified then you will be deviant
-to guide you on the right path, even the haraam is classified also Sunnah is
classified in different parts
-this is called Usoolul Fiqh, haram can be major and minor
1. WHEN
YOU ARE IN YOUR MOTHERS WOMB
-your
mum had to eat and drink for you, this is the very first connection
-some children are addicted to drugs because their mother took drugs
-also some kids have diabetes because the dietary of their mother was not
healthy

Click
-when Sheikh was growing up as a child he did not
see these things
-he grew up in the countryside, this is abnormal for a 5 year old to be taking
shots
-the baby can hear the holy Quran
-if you listen to music the baby can hear also through the umbilical cord
-you should marry righteous women and impregnate them
-you should only marry a man if you would like him to turn up like his father
likewise for the mother
2. WHEN
THE UMBILICAL CORD IS CUT
-you
do not depend on your mother for air and food
-you no longer have to depend on mother to breath oxygen
3. WHEN
YOU ARE SLEEPING
“True dreams are one of the forty-six parts of
Prophethood.” [al-Bukhaari (6472) and Muslim (4201)]
-if you do wudhu before sleeping and do the three
Quls you will get good dreams
-if you do not recite the duas your souls will mix up with
-the Jinns and you will get nightmares sometimes you come to sheikh with dreams
-but these do not need interpretations because they are from Shaytan
-the Shaytan does this to scare you
-while you are sleeping your soul leaves the body and roams the places
-leave villages and town, it can also meet different people
-sometimes you see people and landscapes and you are sure that you have seen
them before
-but you have never been in these places, this is because the soul left the
body to visit these places
-this is deja vu, this is a physiological term
-maybe 5 years later you may meet this person and say "I swear I have seen
you before"
-or maybe you say this when you go to a place this is deja vu
-sleeping is classified by Allah as the twin sister of death
It is He, Who takes your souls by night (when you
are asleep), and has knowledge of all that you have done by day, then he raises
(wakes) you up again that a term appointed (your life period) be fulfilled,
then in the end unto Him will be your return. Then He will inform you what you
used to do. (Al-An'am 6:60)
-sometimes you wake up after sleep because Allah
gives you back your soul
-some of you are not that fortunate and Allah does not return your soul
-some people sleep on their stomach
-the kufaar has to come to Islam
-because some of them make their babies sleep like that in the baby’s crib
-you should put the babies in the crib on their backs this prevents cot death
-but when you make them sleep on their stomachs they can die

have it done
-see how evil the Jews are?
4. THE
BARZAKH (THE GRAVE)
-there
is life in the grave, Munkar wa Nakeer will ask you questions in Barzakh
...“When a individual is placed in his grave and
his companions return and he even hears their footsteps, two angels come to
him, make him sit and ask: “What did you use to say regarding this man (i.e.
Muhammad, ﷺ)? The
believer will say: “I bear testimony that he is the servant and Messenger of
Allah” It will be said to him: “Look at your place in the fire of Hell, Allah
has changed instead of it a place for you in Paradise” So he will see both of
his places...(Sahih al-Bukhari, no.1308 & Sahih Muslim, no. 2870)
-do not mix up the connection between the body and
soul
-else you'll be like the Sufi or Brelvi
Narrated By Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet (ﷺ)
looked at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans
killed in the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said, "Have you found true
what your Lord promised you?" Somebody said to him, "You are
addressing dead people." He replied, "You do not hear better than
they but they cannot reply." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 23, Hadith #452]
-this man can hear the footsteps of all the
people who attended the Janazah
-so don’t say the life in Barzakh is the same as the Dunya, else you'll worship
the inhabitants of the grave
-you need to classify knowledge else you'll be a Khawaarij
-everything in Islam is major and minor
-even in discharges, there are major and minor
-and one needs ghusl whiles the other needs wudhu
Umm Salamah (RA) said that Umm Sulaym bint Milhan
(RA) came to the 'Prophet (ﷺ) and
said, "Messenger of Allah! Allah is not ashamed of the truth. Is it wajib
for a woman to have a bath if she has sexual dream as a man does?" He
said, "Yes, when she sees signs of mani (discharge), she must have a
bath." Umm Salamah (RA) said that she remarked, "O 'Umm Sulaym! You
have disgraced women." [Tirmidhi 122, Ahmed 26675, Bukhari 282, Ibn e
Majah 600, Muslim 313, Abu Dawud 237, Nisai 197]
-like wise kufr and shirk, there are major and
minor
Ali narrated: We did not cease to doubt punishment
in the grave till the surah was revealed: Your rivalry in the accumulation of
wealth diverts your minds. (102:1 etc.) [Tirmidhi 3366]
-so failing to classify knowledge makes you a
headless chicken and this will make you a deviant
-they say why you ‘Wahabi’ who take the Quran literally
-these Goofy Soofis take the Quran literally, they use 3:169 to say the rasul (ﷺ) is
alive in the grave
-and can pray to him, what a hypocrites! When it suits him, he takes it
literally, else they do not
Think not of those who are killed in the Way of
Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision.
(Aali Imran 3:169)
And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by
Our Knowledge). (Qaf 50:16)
- they use 50:16 to say Allah is everywhere
- not in person but in knowledge, that is Tafseer of the ayah
-the connection of the body and soul is fitna to Ummah
-because people are out there worshipping the grave
-saying ‘YA ALI MADADD’ (O Ali Help)
Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the
obedience) is for Allah only. And those who take Auliya' (protectors and
helpers) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may bring us
near to Allah." Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning that
wherein they differ. Truly, Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a
disbeliever. (Az-Zumar 39:3)
-Allah ((سبحانه وتعالىٰ)) made Takfir on the grave worshippers so don’t think
Allah doesn’t make takfir
-He made takfir on many occasions in the Quran
-e.g. in 9:66
If you ask them (about this), they declare:
"We were only talking idly and joking." Say: "Was it at Allah,
and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and
His Messenger (ﷺ) that
you were mocking?" (At-Tawbah 9:65)
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some
of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimûn
(disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). (At-Tawbah 9:66)
- and Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) was harsh in His takfir, some of you don’t like making
takfir, it is like a taboo to you
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) made another takfir in 5:73
Surely, disbelievers are those who said:
"Allah is the third of the three (in a Trinity)." But there is no
ilah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilah (God-Allah).
And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall
the disbelievers among them. (Al-Ma'idah 5:73)
Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of
Islam, the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) from among the
people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al-Mushrikûn will abide in
the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures. (Al-Baiyinah 98:6)
- Shaikh met Tijaani women married to Christians
saying they are Ahlul Kitaab and not kaafirs
O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the
Christians as Auliya' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but
Auliya' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then
surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the
Zalimûn (polytheists and wrong¬doers and unjust). (Al-Ma'idah 5:51)
the tafseer of this ayah
-if a Muslim has a kaafir friend, he is not a kaafir
-the Muslims in Syria are not doing anything haram when they take weapons from
the Jews
-because you can take help from Jews, you can take weapons from one kaafir to
kill another

-even the Prophet (ﷺ) done
it in the battle of Uhud
-he took a shield from a kaafir to go to the battle
-so you are allowed to take the weapons from the kuffaar
5. WHEN YOU ARE IN PARADISE
-this is the most perfect connection
-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) talks about this in Surah Fajr
(It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the
one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) "Come back to your Lord,
Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! (28) "Enter you, then,
among My honoured slaves, (29) "And enter you My Paradise!"(30)
(Al-Fajr 89:27-30)
-when you are told to enter paradise this is the
most perfect connection between the body and soul
-in the Dunya your hair turns grey, you have illnesses, your organs start to
pack up on you
-but in paradise your organs are on track
-the Prophet (ﷺ) said
to an old lady that there will be no old people in Paradise
-the old lady flung her head down and walked off
Hasan Basri (RA) says that an old woman came to
Rasoolullah (ﷺ) and
made a request, O’ Messenger of Allah make Dua that Allah grants me entrance
into Jannah. Rasoolullah (ﷺ)
replied, O’ Mother, an old woman cannot enter Jannah. That woman started crying
and began to leave. Rasoolullah (SAW) said, Say to the woman that one will not
enter in a state of old age, but Allah will make all the women of Jannah young
virgins. Allah Ta’aala says, Lo! We have created them a (new) creation and made
them virgins, lovers, equal in age. (Surah Waaqi’ah, 35-37). [Shamaa-il
Tirmidhi, Ch35, Hadith #230]
-and the Prophet (ﷺ)
called and told her
-these women of paradise will be forever young of the age of 33
-that women would be young in Jannah
-in paradise, men will not have beards, they will get younger and younger by
the day
-the fruits of paradise will taste different everyday even though they are the
same fruits
Do not
think that Dunya and paradise are same?
-in dunya you feel suffering and pain, you get
so disappointed in dunya, some people commit suicide
Allah says:
Verily, We have created man in toil. (Al-Balad 90:4)
-life is not hunky dory, some men cannot cope with
struggles of Dunya
-so the connection between Dunya and Akhira is rigid
-prisoners are on drugs because they have lost all their families
-so to get rid of their pain they take drugs to numb them
Allah says in a hadith Qudsi,
-he has prepared things which eyes have not seen
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA), who said
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said: "When Allah created Paradise and Hell-fire, He sent Gabriel to
Paradise, saying: 'Look at it and at what I have prepared therein for its
inhabitants.'" The Prophet (ﷺ)
said: "So he came to it and looked at it and at what Allah had prepared
therein for its inhabitants." The Prophet (ﷺ)
said: "So he returned to Him and said: 'By your glory, no one hears of it
without entering it.' So He ordered that it be encompassed by forms of
hardship, and He said: 'Return to it and look at what I have prepared therein
for its inhabitants.'" The Prophet (ﷺ)
said: "So he returned to it and found that it was encompassed by forms of
hardship (1). Then he returned to Him and said: 'By Your glory, I fear that no
one will enter it.' He said: 'Go to Hell-fire and look at it and what I have
prepared therein for its inhabitants;' and he found that it was in layers, one
above the other. Then he returned to Him and said: 'By Your glory, no one who
hears of it will enter it.' So He ordered that it be encompassed by lusts. Then
He said: 'Return to it.'And he returned to it and said: 'By Your glory, I am
frightened that no one will escape from entering it.' (1) The Arabic word used
here is "makarih", the literal meaning of which is "things that
are disliked." In this context it refers to forms of religious discipline
that man usually finds onerous. [At-Tirmidhi, who said that it was a good and
sound Hadith (also by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i)]
THE
HUMAN SOUL CONTINUED
03.01.2012 (Evening Dars)
-whenever
you do not understand the connection
-between the human body and soul you become a deviant
-for example the Shi’ites
-they think the life of the Barzakh and the life of the Dunya is the same thing
-the ayah the Shaytan uses to lead them astray is
Think not of those who are killed in the Way of
Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision.
(Aali Imran 3:169)
-he gave them the wrong interpretation of the ayah
-whenever a person has the wrong interpretation of an ayah
-it is not called tafseer, IT IS CALLED A SPIN
-tafseer is when a person gives the right interpretation on the ayah
-but if it is not the right interpretation then it is called a spin
-this is how the Shaytan misleads the Shi’ites and the Brelvis and these grave
worshippers
Narrated By Anas: Whenever drought threatened them,
'Umar bin Al-Khattab, used to ask Al-Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib to invoke Allah
for rain. He used to say, "O Allah! We used to ask our Prophet to invoke
You for rain, and You would bless us with rain, and now we ask his uncle to
invoke You for rain. O Allah ! Bless us with rain." And so it would rain.
[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 17, Hadith #123]
-the
incident when Umar used Abbas to ask for rain whilst there was a drought
-this is to checkmate the grave worshippers
-because Umar didn’t go to the grave of the Prophet (ﷺ)
-but he, Umar went to the Prophet’s uncle house and asked his uncle to make dua
to Allah
-so this hadith is to checkmate the grave worshippers
THE
SOULS JOURNEY AFTER DEATH
Upon
the authority of al-Bara' ibn `Aazib who said: We went out with the Prophet (ﷺ)
to a burial of a man from the Ansar (original inhabitants of Madina) until we
arrived at the grave, and he still had not been placed in the slot of the
grave. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
sat down and we sat around him. You would have thought that birds were upon our
heads from our silence, and in the hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
was a stick which he was poking the ground with. [Then he started looking at
the sky and looking at the earth and looking up down three times]. Then he said
to us: "Ask Allah for refuge from the torment of the grave", he
repeated this command two or three times. [Then he said O Allah I seek refuge
in you from the torment of the grave] three times]…
TWO
TYPES OF SAHABAS
-The
Ansars and The Muhajireen
-the Ansars were the helpers and the Muhajireen were the emigrants
-the Sahabi is saying in this hadith that they had
-so much respect for the Prophet (ﷺ)
-the Prophet (ﷺ) repeated 3 times
"O ALLAH I SEEK REFUGE IN YOU FROM THE GRAVE"
-he elaborated on this, when the soul leaves this
world the angels come down to this person
-and then says to the soul "O you soul come out to the pleasure of
Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ "
-then the soul comes out in ease
-this is what is meant in the surah 79:1-2
By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked)
with great violence; (1) By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls
of the believers); (2) (An-Nazi'at 79:1-2)
-Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ swears by 2
types of angels in the Quran
1) the one who takes out the soul by ease
2) and the one who takes it out harshly
-why does Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ use the word 'angels', because
there is only one angel of death?
-we answer this by Aqeedah ASWJ
-one angel takes out the soul from the body (the angel of death)
-then he passes the soul onto other angels
-and they wrap up the soul in nice smelling cloth, if he is a believer
-or if he is not a believer then his soul is wrapped by foul smelling cloth
There was one story of Musa (AS) punching the angel of death
-when a person is a Mu’tazilite he follows his Aql
rather than the text
-they prefer their Aql (intellect) over the Naql (text)
Narrated
By Abu Huraira: The angel of death was sent to Moses and when he went to him,
Moses slapped him severely, spoiling one of his eyes. The angel went back to
his Lord, and said, "You sent me to a slave who does not want to
die." Allah restored his eye and said, "Go back and tell him (i.e.
Moses) to place his hand over the back of an ox, for he will be allowed to live
for a number of years equal to the number of hairs coming under his hand."
(So the angel came to him and told him the same). Then Moses asked, "O my
Lord! What will be then?" He said, "Death will be then." He
said, "(Let it be) now." He asked Allah that He bring him near the
Sacred Land at a distance of a stone's throw. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ)
said, "Were I there I would show you the grave of Moses by the way near
the red sand hill." [al-Bukhari (1339) and Muslim (2372)]
3 REASONS WHY
PROPHET MUSA PUNCHED ANGEL OF DEATH
1. FEARED DEATH
2. HE DID NOT WANT HIS GRAVE TO BE KNOWN TO EVERYONE
3. HE WANTED TO DIE ON A HOLY PIECE OF LAND
-Imam Bukhari studied all three reasons
-he didn’t accept the first and second he took the 3rd reason
-this was the opinion of Imam Bukhari
-Musa (AS) wanted to die in Jerusalem
It was
narrated that ‘Umar (RA) said: “O Allah, grant me martyrdom for Your sake and
make my death in the land of Your Messenger (ﷺ).”
[Sahih Bukhari (Vol. 3, pg. 23) No. 1890]
Imam al-Nawawi (RH) he included it in a chapter entitled: Chapter on the
recommendation for a person to pray that his death will be in the virtuous
land. [Al-Adhkaar, p. 98]
Ibn Umar (RA) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ)
said, “If anyone can die in Madinah, let him die there for, I will intercede
for one who dies there.” [Tirmidhi (5/719) No. 3943, Ibn Majah (4/292) No 3112,
Musnad Ahmad (2/74) No. 5437]
Narrated from Ibn Abbas the Messenger of Allah said: 'The sign (that
differentiates) between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink their
fill from Zamzam." [Sunan Ibn Majah (4/248) No. 3061, al-Bukhari in
'al-Tarikh al-Awsat' (2/176) No. 2207, Abdur Razzaq in 'al-Musannaf' (5/112)
No. 9111, at-Tabarani in ‘al-Mu’jam al-Kabir’ (11/124) No. 11246, Bayhaqi in
'Sunan al-Kubra' (5/147) No. 9438]
-some
places are good to die in like Mecca and Medina and on Friday
Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said,
“No Muslim dies on the day of Friday or the night of Friday but Allah protects
him from the trial in the grave.” [Tirmidhi 1076, Ahmed 6593]
-so
that is why he punched angel of death because he was not in a holy land
-Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ gave
him respite to die another day
THE
SOUL OF A BELIEVER
…Then
he said: "Verily, the believing servant, when leaving this life and
journeying to the hereafter angels will descend upon him, their faces will be
white as if they were suns, they will have with them a shroud (kafan) from the
shroud of Paradise), and an embalmment (HanouT) from the embalmment's of
heaven. Then, they will sit within eye-shot of him. Then the angel of death
(peace be upon him) will come and sit at his head and will say "O you
virtuous soul; come out to a forgiveness and a pleasure from your Lord ".
So it will come out as a drop comes out of the mouth of a jug (with ease), then
he will take it, not leaving it in his hand for longer that a blink of an eye
until they (he and the other angels) have placed it in that shroud and that
embalmment. And there will emanate from it a smell like that of the most sweet
smelling musk on the face of the earth. Then they shall ascend with it, and
they shall not pass with it by any group of angels but they will say: What is
this good and sweet-smelling soul?. Then they shall say to them (he is)
"such" the son of "such" choosing the best of the names he
used to be called in this life. Until they reach the lowest sky, then they
shall ask permission to enter, and they shall be granted entry, until they end
at the seventh heaven sky, then Allah, exalted and high, shall say: "write
the book of my servant in `illiyeen (1) [And what will explain to you what
Illiyeen is `illiyeen, there is a register fully inscribed to which bear witness
those nearest to Allah (see 83:18)], and his book will be written in `illiyeen,
and the shall be said "return him to the earth, for [I promised them] I
have created them from it, and into it I shall return them, and from it I shall
extract (resurrect) them a second time (20:55)"…
-the soul of a believer is wrapped up in sweet
smelling garment, the angels ascend to the heavens
-every time they go pass the heavens, the angels rush and say who is this soul
-the angels then describe the soul by the good names he was called in the dunya
-then when Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ sees this soul,
-He says return this soul to his body, he can hear the footstep of the people
-going to his Janazah, when the angels of the grave ask him question he will
pass
Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the
word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allah
Alone and none else), and in the Hereafter. And Allah will cause to go astray
those who are Zalimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), and Allah does what He
wills. (Ibrahim 14:27)
Tafseer for ayah 14
-If the person is a believer Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) will bless him with firmness
-and he will be able to answer the three questions of the grave
Bara (RA) reported from the Prophet (ﷺ)
about this verse: "Allah keeps the believers firm with the stable word in
the worldly life and in the Hereafter." (14:27) He explained that this has
reference to the grave when it is asked, “Who is your Lord? What is your
religion and who was your Prophet?” [Bukhari 1369, Muslim 2871, Abu Dawud 4750,
Tirmidhi 3131, Nisai 2056, Ibn e Majah 4269]
WHEN
THE BELIEVER IS IN THE GRAVE
…So
[he is returned to earth and] his soul is returned to his body [he said and he
will hear the footsteps of his friends who buried him when they leave him].
Then two [severe] angels shall come and [terrify him and] sit him up next to
them and shall ask him: "Who is your Lord?". He shall reply "My
Lord is Allah". Then they shall ask him: "What is your
religion?". He shall answer them: "My religion is Islam". Then
they shall ask him "Who is this man who was sent among you?". He will
reply "He is the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
peace be upon him". Then they shall ask him "What have you
done?". He shall reply: "I read the book of Allah, then I believed in
it and accepted it". [The angel will terrify him and ask him "Who is
your Lord?", "What is your religion?" "Who is your
prophet?", and this will be the last trial on earth for the believer, it
is then when Allah says: "Allah will establish in strength those who
believe with the word that stands firm in this world", so he will answer
my Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam and my Prophet is Mohammad (ﷺ).
Then a caller will call from the sky: "My slave has spoken the truth, so
spread out for him from the heaven, and clothe him from the heaven, and open a
door for him from the heaven (within his grave)", so it's goodness and its
smell will come unto him, then his grave will be expanded for him as far as he
can see. Then a man will come to him. His face will be handsome, and his clothes
will be handsome, and his smell will be sweet. Then he shall say unto him: I
bring you glad tidings of that which will make you happy [Rejoice with a
pleasure of Allah and delights that endure]. This is the day that you were
promised (46:16). Then he will say [and may Allah give you glad tiding]
"who are you?, for your face is the face of someone who comes with good
news". He shall reply: "I am your good deeds, [by Allah, I did not
know of you but that you were quick to the obedience of Allah and slow to His
disobedience, so may Allah reward you good]". Then he shall say: "My
Lord bring the hour so that I might return to my family and my wealth" [it
will be said to him "be tranquil"]…
-a young man comes to him in the grave with a sweet smell
-and he the young man will say rejoice of what your Lord had promised you
THE
SOUL OF THE DISBELIEVER
…He
(Mohammed, ﷺ)
said: ( And the disbelieving [transgressor/wicked] servant), if he is leaving
this life and journeying to the hereafter then angels will descend upon him,
their faces will be black, they have with them a coarse woolen fabric
(sackcloth)[ made of fire]. Then they will sit within eye-shot of him. Then the
angel of death will come and sit at his head and will say "O you wicked
soul; come out to a anger from your Lord and a fury (from Him)". So it
will be distributed (spread out) throughout his body, then it will be ripped
away as a skewer/spit is ripped out of damp cotton [and in its way out it will
tear and cut the nerves and blood vessels] [and then he will be cursed by all
the angels between the earth and the sky and by all the angels in the sky, and
the gates of heaven are closed. There is no gate in the heaven but its people
supplicate that the wicked soul shall not be ascended to their side], then he
will take it (the soul), not leaving it in his hand for longer than a blink of
an eye until they have placed it in that sackcloth. And there will emanate from
it a stench like that of the most evil smelling corpse on the face of the
earth. Then they shall ascend with it, and they shall not pass with it by a
group of angels but they will say: What is this wicked soul?. Then they shall
say to them (he is) "such" the son of "such" choosing the
most hated of the names he used to be called in this life. Until they reach the
lowest heaven (sky), then they shall ask permission to enter, and they shall
not be granted entry. Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) recited "The doors
of the sky are not opened to them, nor shall they enter heaven until the camel
passes through the eye of the needle" (7:40). Then Allah, exalted and
high, shall say: "write the book of my servant in Sijjeen (2)(83:7) in the
lowest earth". [Then will be said "return my slave to the earth, for
I promised them I have created them from it, and into it I shall return them,
and from it I shall extract (resurrect) them a second time (20:55)"]. Then
his soul shall be taken away [from the sky] with a mighty hurl [until it is
cast into his body]. Then he (the Prophet, ﷺ)
read: "and those who associate partners with Allah, They are as one who
falls from the sky then is snatched by the birds or is cast by the wind into a
very low place (22:31)"…
-the
Prophet (ﷺ) said
when a disbeliever leaves this world and enters the next
-angels with dark clothing, will say "O YOU WRETCHED SOUL COME OUT TO THE
WRATH OF ALLAH"
-the soul will not want to come out, so the angel of death pulls out the soul
-the angels then wrap this soul up with a foul smelling cloth
-when the angels go past a host of angels, they say "Who is this foul
smelling soul?"
-they the angels go to the lowest of heavens and say open
Verily, those who belie Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs,
revelations, etc.) and treat them with arrogance, for them the gates of heaven
will not be opened, and they will not enter Paradise until the camel goes
through the eye of the needle (which is impossible). Thus do We recompense the
Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). (Al-A'raf 7:40)
-but
Allahسبحانه وتعالىٰ msays in Surah 7:40 that the doors of the heavens will not be opened for
this person
-the rasool (ﷺ) read
this ayah when he was explaining about the sinful soul
-then Allah says place this soul in the 'sijeen', this is where the soul of the
kaafir is kept
-paradise is above this because sijeen is a place in hell
-then it will be said return this soul back to where I created it
-then the soul will be thrown back to earth were his body is
-then he can hear the footsteps of the people of his janazah
-therefore the dead person can hear, but he cannot answer you
-when the Prophet (ﷺ)
stood over the dead of Battle of Badr, he called them by the names
-he said , Utba, Abu Jahal, did you find the promise of your Lord true?
-and then Umar said they cannot hear you, he saw said they can hear me but
cannot answer me
Narrated By Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet (ﷺ) looked
at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans killed in
the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said, "Have you found true what your
Lord promised you?" Somebody said to him, "You are addressing dead
people." He replied, "You do not hear better than they but they
cannot reply." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 23, Hadith #452]
WHEN
THE DISBELIEVER IS IN THE GRAVE
…Then
his soul will be returned into his body, [he (the Prophet) said: verily he will
hear the footsteps of his friends who buried him when they leave him]. Then two
harsh severe and fearsome angels shall come and [terrify him and] sit him up
and shall ask him: "Who is your Lord?". He shall reply "Huh?,
Huh (this is an expression of sorrow), I don't know". Then they shall ask
him: "What is your religion?". He shall answer them: "Huh?,
Huh?, I don't know". Then they shall ask him "Who is this man who was
sent among you?". He will reply "Huh?, Huh?, I don't know [I heard people
saying that!]". He (the Prophet, ﷺ)
said "And then will be said to him don't ever know and don't ever
recite!"]. Then a caller will call from the sky: "My slave has spoken
falsely, so spread out for him from the hell fire, and open a door for him from
the hell fire (within his grave)", so its heat and hot wind will come unto
him, then his grave will be contracted upon him until his limbs are caught up
among one another. Then a man will come to him. His face will be ugly, and his
clothes will be ugly, and his smell will be vile. Then he shall say unto him: I
bring you tidings of that which will harm you. This is the day that you were
promised (70:44). Then he will say [and you, may Allah give you bad tiding]
"who are you?, for your face is the face of someone who comes with
evil". He shall reply: "I am your evil deeds [by Allah, I did not
know of you but that you were quick to the disobedience of Allah and slow to
His obedience, so may Allah reward you bad, and then will be assigned to him a
blind, deaf and mute person who holds in his hand a hammer, if a mountain is
hit with it, it would disintegrate, and he will beat him with it until he
becomes dust, and then Allah will render him to his initial form, and he will
beat him again, and he (the wicked) will cry of sorrow and pain a cry that will
be heard by all creatures except humans and jinn, and a door of hell will be
opened unto him within his grave and will spread out for him sheets of hell
fire]". Then he shall say: "My Lord do not bring the hour".
[This hadith is narrated by Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah,
at-Tayalisi, and al-Hakim who said it is according to the standards of Bukhari
and Muslim. This text is the text of Ahmad, all text between brackets is from
the other narrators and other narrations of Ahmad]
Munkar
and Nakeer question them
-they cannot answer, and say huh, huh, huh?
-they say we said what the people say, then the grave will squeeze them
-and then will appear a man with foul smelling clothing and a dark face
-the dead will be say who are you? the man would say, I am your bad deeds
-if one gets the answer of the grave wrong, the angels will hit him on his head
with a hammer
-everyone can hear the dead screaming except man
and jinn
Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said: “If (I had not feared) that you would stop burying your deceased, I would
have asked Allah to make you hear the punishment in the grave” (Sahih Muslim
#6860)
-when the decease sees his final destiny
-he will say O Lord delay the hour
THE
NAFS AND RUH
THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN NAFS AND RUH
NAFS
Nafs=Blood/evil eye
Nafs also means yourself
Nafs means the same thing
But when you enter the houses, greet one another
with a greeting from Allah (i.e. say: As-Salamu 'Alaikum-peace be on you)
blessed and good. Thus Allah makes clear the Ayat (these Verses or your
religious symbols and signs, etc.) to you that you may understand. (An-Nur
24:61)
-it also can mean a man’s evil and corrupted desires
But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself
from impure evil desires, and lusts. (An-Nazi'at 79:40)
-like
for example when a man drinks Alcohol we say his evil nafs got the better of
him
RUH
-ruh has many meanings
-it DOES NOT REFER to the soul when it’s in the body
-the Quran means Ruh because it gives you life
-it also means the Holy Spirit (Gabriel)
-the kufaar believe in the Holy Spirit also but different to us
-Allah(سبحانه وتعالىٰ) mentions this in Surah Qadr the angels descend that
night, as well as the holy spirit
Verily!
We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) (1) And
what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is? (2) The night of
Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in
that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and
4 months). (3) Therein descend the angels and the Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by
Allah's Permission with all Decrees, (4) Peace! (All that night, there is Peace
and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.(5)
(Al-Qadr 97:1-5)
-there is no other holy spirit except Gabriel, the Christian
concept of the Holy Spirit is wrong
-Ruh also means eman and it also means strength
For
such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Rûh
(proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them to
Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah
is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily,
it is the Party of Allah that will be the successful. (Al-Mujadilah 58:22)
Everyone shall taste death… (Aali Imran 3:185)
Umm
Salamah reported: "Allâh’s Messenger entered upon Abû Salamah [i.e. his
corpse], whose eyes were wide open. The Prophet closed the lids and then said,
‘When the rûh [spirit] is taken out, the eyesight follows it [i.e., watches it
ascend]. Authentically related by Ahmad and Muslim
And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what
you have been avoiding!" (Qaf 50:19)
Death comes with its own agony and when the rasul (ﷺ) was
dying he used to dip his face in water
Whenever
a man is dying Shaytan comes to him and calls him beloved son
-so it is advised to have pious people in the room of a dying person
-because Abu Jahl told Abu Talib not to recite the Shahadah
-and so he died a kaafir
It is
reported by Sa'id b. Musayyib who narrated it on the authority of his father
(Musayyib b. Hazm) that when Abu Talib was about to die, the Messenger of Allah
(ﷺ) came
to him and found with him Abu Jahl ('Amr b. Hisham) and 'Abdullah b. Abi Umayya
Ibn al-Mughirah. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said: My uncle, you just make a profession that there is no god but Allah, and
I will bear testimony before Allah (of your being a believer), Abu Jahl and
'Abdullah b. Abi Umayya addressing him said: Abu Talib, would you abandon the
religion of 'Abdul-Muttalib? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
constantly requested him (to accept his offer),and(on the other hand) was
repeated the same statement (of Abu Jahl and 'Abdullah b. Abi Umayya) till Abu
Talib gave his final decision and be stuck to the religion of 'Abdul-Muttalib
and refused to profess that there is no god but Allah. Upon this the Messenger
of Allah remarked: By Allah, I will persistently beg pardon for you till I am
forbidden to do so (by God), It was then that Allah, the Magnificent and the
Glorious, revealed this verse: "It is not meet for the Prophet and for
those who believe that they should beg pardon for the polytheists, even though
they were their kith and kin, after it had been made known to them that they
were the denizens of Hell" (ix. 113) And it was said to the Messenger of
Allah (ﷺ):
"Verily thou canst not guide to the right path whom thou lovest. And it is
Allah Who guideth whom He will, and He knoweth best who are the
guided"(xxviii, 56).[Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 0036]
-so only have righteous people in the room
-who will encourage him to recite the Shahadah
The
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said, "No one meets Allah with the testimony that there is none worthy of
worship but Allah and I am the Messenger of Allah, and he has no doubt about
that statement, except that he will enter Paradise." [Muslim]
Abu
Talib died saying 'on the religion of Abdul Mutta'lib and not the Shahadah
SIGNS
TELLING YOU A PERSON DIED A GOOD DEATH
1. HE WAS ABLE TO RECITE SHAHADAH
2. HE DIED ON THE BATTLEFIELD
-from the 1st drop of his blood all his sins are forgiven
-he is also saved from the punishment of the grave
-he crosses the bridge of sirat with the speed of lightening
-he is given a special crown to wear
-he is married to 72 virgins in paradise
-he is able to intercede for 70 members of his family
Miqdam ibn Ma’dikarib (RA) reported that Allah’s
Messenger (ﷺ)
said, “There are with Allah six blessings for the martyr. (1) He is forgiven
with the first drop of blood. (2) He is shown his abode in paradise. (3) He is
preserved from the torment of the grave and is safe from the great fear on the
Day of Resurrection. (4) A crown of honour ingrained with pearl is placed on
his head, which is better than the world and what it contains. (5) He is
married to seventy-two maidens (huris) of paradise. (6) His intercession for
his seventy relatives is accepted.” [Tirmidhi 1669, Ahmed 12013, Ibn e Majah
2799]
Think not of those who are killed in the Way of
Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision.
(Aali Imran 3:169)
3. HE DIED ON A JOURNEY WHICH IS A SACRED JOURNEY
-this is a sign of a person dying a good death
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as
saying: There was a person before you who had killed ninety-nine persons and
then made an inquiry about the learned persons of the world (who could show him
the way to salvation). He was directed to a monk. He came to him and told him
that he had killed ninety-nine persons and asked him whether there was any
scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: No. He killed him also and
thus completed one hundred. He then asked about the learned persons of the
earth and he was directed to a scholar, and he told him that he had killed one
hundred persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to
be accepted. He said: Yes; what stands between you and the repentance? You
better go to such and such land; there are people devoted to prayer and worship
and you also worship along with them and do not come to the land of yours since
it was an evil land (for you). So he went away and he had hardly covered half
the distance when death came to him and there was a dispute between the angels
of mercy and the angels of punishment. The angels of mercy said: This man has
come as a penitent and remorseful to Allah and the angels of punishment said:
He has done no good at all. Then there came another angel in the form of a
human being in order to decide between them. He said: You measure the land to
which he has drawn near. They measured it and found him nearer to the land
where he intended to go (the land of piety), and so the angels of mercy took
possession of it. Qatada said that Hasan told him that it was said to them that
as death approached him, he crawled upon his chest (and managed) to slip in the
land of mercy. [Sahih Muslim, Book 37, Hadith #6662]
-if you die traveling to the battlefield it is a
good death
-if you die seeking knowledge it is a good death
Narrated By Ibn Abbas: While a man was riding
(his Mount) in 'Arafat, he fell down from it (his Mount) and broke his neck
(and died). The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"Wash him with water and Sidr and shroud him in two pieces of cloth, and
neither perfume him, nor cover his head, for he will be resurrected on the Day
of Resurrection saying, 'Labbaik,' (i.e. like a pilgrim)." [Sahih Bukhari,
Vol 2, Book 23, Hadith #355]
4. IF HE
DIES FROM A PANDEMIC
Jabir
ibn 'Utaik reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:
"There are seven kinds of martyrs besides those killed in the cause of
Allah: 1. a person who is killed in an epidemic, 2. a person who is drowned, 3.
a person who has bed sores that cause fever and a bad cough resulting in his
death, 4. a person who dies of a stomach disease, 5. a person who dies in a
fire, 6. a person who dies under falling debris (in a disaster), and 7. a woman
who dies during childbirth." [Ahmad, Abu Daw'ud and Nasa'i report this
hadith based on sound authority]
5. HE DIES FROM AN STOMACH ILLNESS
6. A WOMAN WHO DIES IN CHILDBIRTH
7. A PERSON DIES DROWNING IN A SEA OR RIVER
8. A PERSON DYING IN A FIRE
9. A PERSON DIES FROM A BUILDING COLLAPSING ON TOP OF HIM/HER
10. A PERSON DIES DEFENDING HIS PROPERTY
Sa’eed ibn Zayd (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)
said, “He who is killed in defence of his property is a martyr. He who is
killed in self defence is a martyr. He who is killed in defence of his religion
is a martyr. And, he who is killed in defence of his family is a martyr.” [Abu
Dawud 4772, Nisai 4102, Ibn e Majah 2580, Ahmed 1652, Tirmidhi 1426]
11. A PERSON DIES ON
A FRIDAY
Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)
said, “No Muslim dies on the day of Friday or the night of Friday but Allah
protects him from the trial in the grave.” [Tirmidhi 1076, Ahmed 6593]
-the kufaar said they killed Anwar al Awlaki with a drone on a
Friday
12. YOU
DIE IN MADINA
Ibn Umar (RA) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ)
said, “If anyone can die in Madinah, let him die there for, I will intercede
for one who dies there.” [Tirmidhi (5/719) No. 3943, Ibn Majah (4/292) No 3112,
Musnad Ahmad (2/74) No. 5437]
13. WHEN YOU DIE
SWEAT WAS ON YOUR FOREHEAD
Abdullah ibn Buraydah (RA) reported on the authority of his father that the
Prophet (ﷺ)
said, “The Believer dies with sweat on his forehead.” [Tirmidhi 984, Ahmed
23109, Nisai 1827, Ibn e Majah 1452]
14. DYING DOING AN ACT OF PIETY
3 TYPES
OF SOULS
1. NAFS LAWWAMAH
(THE REBUKING SOUL)
-The soul tells you to fear Allah ((سبحانه وتعالىٰ)) and make taubah
-the soul is a separate entity from the person
Narrated By 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud the Prophet (ﷺ)
saying: "A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain
which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas the wicked person considers his
sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like
this." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 75, Hadith #320]
-a person with nafs lawwama live his life on Prozac
-a life of pain and sorrow, mental depression
-a person with a wretched soul
-see 20:124
"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder
(i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for
him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of
Resurrection." (Ta-Ha 20:124)
2. NAFS
AMMARAH (THE SOUL PRONE TO EVIL)
DR HAROLD SHIPMAN 'DR DEATH':

-see 43:46
And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from
the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Qur'an and worship of
Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satandevil) to be a Qarin (an intimate
companion) to him. (Az-Zukhruf 43:36)
-they
can snap from being an angel to a Shaitan (bipolar)
-they have mood swings because the Shaitan is in control of their heart, soul,
and mind
3. NAFS
MUTMA'INNAH (THE CONTENT SOUL)
-Allah
(سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke of this in surah Fajr
-see 89:27-30
(It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and
satisfaction! (27) "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and
well-pleasing unto Him! (28) "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, (29)
"And enter you My Paradise!"(30) (Al-Fajr 89:27-30)
-the
rasul (ﷺ) said
"Oh Omar whenever the Shaitan
-sees you walking down the road, he walks on the other side of the road"
...Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if Satan would encounter you in the way
he would certainly take a different way from that of yours. [Sahih Muslim, Book
31, Hadith #5899]
Those
who believe, fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in
the cause of Taghût (Satan, etc.). So fight you against the friends of Shaitan
(Satan); Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitan (Satan). (An-Nisa 4:76)
-whenever a person’s soul is being taken to the
heavens,
-the souls that are already in heaven will rush to the gate to the other soul
and question
-the soul suffers apprehension and anxiety
-while you are sleeping the soul leaves your body
-and goes off to different places causing you to experience deja vu
-there’s no such a thing called incarnation
-we believe in resurrection
-the Shaitan takes in the form of your grandmother, grandfather
-sometimes the soul of a dead person communicates
-with the soul of a person who is alive
Narrated By Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle
(ﷺ)
saying, "Nothing is left of the prophetism except Al-Mubashshirat."
They asked, "What are Al-Mubashshirat?" He replied, "The true
good dreams (that conveys glad tidings)." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 87,
Hadith #119]
“True dreams are one of the forty-six parts of Prophethood.” [al-Bukhaari
(6472) and Muslim (4201)]
"So that I may do good in that which I have left behind!" No! It
is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the
Day when they will be resurrected. (Al-Mu'minun 23:100)
-Reincarnation
is Buddhism and Hinduism
-the reason why people believe in reincarnation is because the Shaitan has the
ability to take the form
-of your dead relatives to deceive you
