Tafsir Surah Al Baqarah Ayat 127 [notes]

 

  بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Tafseer Surah Baqarah:

(Beware of Going against the Ijmaa3 of the Ummah)

Bismillah, we begin Tafseer Surah Baqarah....

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said in the Qur’an: 

وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ ٱلْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ١٢٧

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) and (his son) Isma'il (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah), (saying), "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower." (Al-Baqarah 2:127)

IBRAHIM and his son building the KA’BAH

-they didn't assume Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ would accept their dua

-so we're to pray and ask Him to accept our duaas

-Ibrahim asked Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) to accept his effort of building the kab’ah

The deeds of the kaafiroon (disbelievers), murtadoon (apostates), munafiqoon (hypocrites) and mishrikoon (pagans) are never accepted

-the faasiqoon (Muslim with weaknesses) salah and fasting are not rejected

-the deeds of the mushrik are not accepted either

-only the deeds (duas and fasting) on the sincere believers are accepted

-those who drink alcohol have no salah for 40 days/ nights

 "Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)." (Al-Ma'idah 5:27)

-people who are unscrupulous in their deeds, everything about them is haram

-he raises his hands and says "ya rabb" but that is where he stops; his deeds were not accepted

-are you eating halal food?

-are you rejecting the taghoot or in bed with them?

-do you practice al walaa wal baraa?

-where do you think Allah is? On the Arsh, or not?

-what is your opinion on democracy?

-what is your aqeeda?

-do you spy for the Mi5, CIA or FBI?

-do you beat your wife or ignore your parents?

IF YOUR DUAAS ARE NOT ANSWERED, ASK YOURSELF THOSE QUESTIONS

ARE YOU DOING DAWAH TO PROMOTE A GROUP OR ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)?

ONLY THE PRAYERS / DUAAS / DEEDS / SALAH OF THE MUTAQEEN ARE ACCEPTED

TABLIGHI JAMM'AH:  they believe Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is everywhere but see 20:5

The Most Beneficent (Allah) Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). (Ta-Ha 20:5)

-their walaa is not to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) but to group (groupism) - asabiyya

-they turn their back on Qur'an and Sunnah instead of their group

Sayyidina Anas Radiallahu anhu reports: “I once said: Ya Rasulullah (ﷺ) pray to Allah to make me of those whose Duas are directly accepted.” Rasulullah ﷺ replied: “O Anas, keep your earnings Halaal and pure and your Duas will be accepted because if a man places one morsel of Haraam food in his mouth, his duas will not be accepted for a period of forty days.” [Muslim]

Three PEOPLE WILL BE SHOWN THEIR DEEDS

-scholar:  he will be told you sought knowledge to called great scholar

-the spender: he will be told you're a liar, you didn't spend to be help but to be called kind hearted

-mujahid: he will be told you lied, as you fought to be called brave heart

THEIR INTENTION WAS NOT CORRECT ... they did not have the proper ikhlaas (sincerity)

IF YOU'RE DOING GOOD DEEDS TO SHOW OFF - YOU WILL BE DISGRACED BY ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)

Whoever seeks knowledge to argue with the scholars, or to show off with the ignorant people, and attracts the faces of the people towards him, Allah would enter him into the Hellfire." [Hasan - Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah]

PRIDE and ARROGANCE will always be exposed

"Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)." (Al-Ma'idah 5:27)

ONLY THE PRAYERS / DUAAS / DEEDS / SALAH OF THE MUTAQEEN ARE ACCEPTED

-the sincere believers

-the people of taqwah

I heard the Messenger of Allah, (ﷺ), say: "Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended. Thus, he whose migration (hijrah) was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated."  [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

WHEN THE PROPHET TOLD THE SAHABAHS THIS HADITH...

-he only told one:  UMAR

-he didn't spread this to others

-the one who migrated to Madinah to find a girl found one

-the most sacred place on earth, Makkah became darul harb

-"if my people didn't drive me out, I would never leave you"

CAN MAKKAH BECOME DARUL HARB?  OH YES ... if you studied seerah, you'd know!

-it was darul harb in the past and Madinah was darul Islam

BATTLE OF BADR

-the people of darul Islam and darul harb

-Abu Jahl was the commander for the Makkkans

-the Rasool commanded Madinah (on the 17th of Ramadan)

-he said, "If you allow this small band to be destroyed, you will never be worshipped on this earth"

-the battle between BAUTIL and HAQQ

-the BATTLE OF TRUTH

-Abu Jahl also made a dua ... did he prayed to Allah, "if I was good to my family, give me victory"

And (remember) when Shaitan (Satan) made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said, "No one of mankind can overcome you this Day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbour (for each and every help)." But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said "Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily! I see what you see not. Verily! I fear Allah for Allah is Severe in punishment." (Al-Anfal 8:48)

"I FEAR ALLAH" - the shaitan said this and it was a lie; many people say it but don't mean it

-he worships his evil and corrupted desires

EVERY KAAFIR IS A HYPOCRITE AND EVERY HYPOCRITE IS A KAAFIR

(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." (Al-A'raf 7:12)

The shaitain is a racist and a Mu`tazilite (rationalist), a liar, pretender, and a kaafir

The shaitan is a complete package: he is ungrateful, wasteful, (wasting energy, time)

Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayatin (devils), and the Shaitan (Devil ­ Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord. (Al-Isra 17:27)

Did you realize that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) used the word, KAAFIR to mean UNGRATEFUL

-kaafirs are ungrateful: they use us and then dump us

-they use us for contacts, money, and sex (zina)

-they dump us after they ingratiate themselves!

INGRATIATE: means to make someone fall in love with you and trust you

-you see someone with something you want, so you make them get close to you

-afterward, they get what they want and dump us

-this word is used in psychology everyday

WHEN IBRAHIM and his son built the KA’BAH

-they didn't take for granted Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) would accept their humble effort

-so, they prayed and asked for Him (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) to accept their dua

ALL HEARING and ALL KNOWING

-deaf people cannot learn

-a good listener is a good learner

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) and (his son) Isma'il (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah), (saying), "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower." (Al-Baqarah 2:127)

MIGHT WITHOUT WISDOM IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER

MIGHT WITH MERCY IS APPRECIATED BY THE RECIPIENT

-if you can take revenge and you do not because you exercised mercy

-the recipient of the mercy will appreciate it

WHEN THE RASOOL CONQUERED MAKKAH, he was joined in by tribe after tribe

-there were only 2,000 people living there and they expected him to take revenge

-they killed Sumaya and her husband, Yasir

-they put an embargo against Madinah for three years

-they put a rotten intestine on the back of the Prophet when he went down in sajdah

-but did he take revenge?  No, ...... he said only four words:  

"GO:  YOU ARE FREE"

-it's four words in Arabic and English

-and they were so surprised and the whole of Makkah embraced Islam.

-When a man has power and he can take retribution, but he forgives the oppressor

-the mercy is appreciated by the recipient of the mercy

The conquest of Makkah took place in Ramadan, as well

ARABS ARE NOT BLOODTHIRSTY:  they are very merciful

SHAIKH IN SAUDI ARABIA

-when he was studying in university, he made mistakes

-he was always forgiven for his mistakes

SHAIKH IN THE UK

-Shaikh saw Jamaicans go to Morocco to get married

-these brothers were still smoking ganja (some sort of weed)

-some stopped coming to his study circle because they said Shaikh was too harsh re: the ganja

SHAIKH IN UNIVERSITY

-Shaikh read very rare books, not found in English

-he read Ahadith in Arabic

-he wanted to borrow a book but he was not allowed to take it from the library

-he tried anyway to take the book out but it had a chip in it .. ha!

-Beep went off and the librarian said I TOLD YOU - YOU CAN'T TAKE THE BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY

***the name of the book is Ad Dar al Katni

-when the beep went off, the librarian could have told the deen but he/she did not

-Arabs are merciful

WHEN WE DO ACTS OF IBAADAH, DON'T EXPECT THAT ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) WILL ALWAYS ACCEPT IT

-says a duaa that it will be accepted

And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (At-Tur 52:4)

Rasullullah (ﷺ) said: “The Ka’bah is surrounded by seventy thousand angels. They seek forgiveness and blessings for those who make tawaf.” (Ibn Majah)

This is Al Bait-ul-Ma'mur where 70,000 angels perform prayers daily and when they leave they never return to it (but always a fresh batch comes into it daily).' Then I was shown Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. a tree in the seventh heaven) Bukhari: (3207) Bukhari: (4/54) Hadith 429)

There I met and greeted Abraham who said, 'You are welcomed o son and a Prophet.' Then I was shown Al-Bait-al-Ma'mur (i.e. Allah's House). I asked Gabriel about it and he said, This is Al Bait-ul-Ma'mur where 70,000 angels perform prayers daily and when they leave they never return to it (but always a fresh batch comes into it daily).' [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 54, Hadith #429]

There is another KA’BAH on top of our KA’BAH

-70,000 angels go there to make hajj everyday

-the KA’BAH is in the heaven and the Rasool saw it when he went there

-on his journey to [Al Israa Al Miraj]

Who laid the foundation stone for the KA’BAH in the dunya?  ANGELS

Who laid the foundation stone for the KA’BAH in MADINAH?   THE RASOOL (ﷺ)

Who laid the foundation stone for the KA’BAH (Al Aqsa) in the Jerusalem?   ANGELS

Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allah) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him] [Tafsir Qurtubi, Vol. 10, Page 204] Who took His slave (Muhammad ﷺ) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad SAW) of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. (Al-Isra 17:1)

The two Qiblas were united and 40,000 Sahabahs attended

Abu Hurairah said about our beloved Prophet (ﷺ): “On the night Allah’s apostle was taken to the journey (Al-Isra Wal-Miraaj), two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said “Praise be to Allah who guided you to Al-Fitrah (the right path) if you had taken the cup of wine, your nation would have gone astray.” (Sahih Bukhari (Arabic/English) Vol.7 pg.338)

"MY UMMAH WILL NEVER UNITE UPON AN ERROR"

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “Allah will never allow my Ummah to unite upon misguidance and incorrect beliefs. Allah’s mercy, blessings and protection are with the largest group of Muslims. And he who deviates from this largest group of Muslims will be thrown into Hell.” (Tirmidhi)

WHY ARE WE THE BEST UMMAH:

-on the night of Al Israa Wal Miraj, Muhammad (ﷺ) chose the MILK

-after Ibrahim built the KA’BAH, he prayed for their efforts to be accepted

-he asked for their progeny to become Muslims only

"Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You and show us our Manasik (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage - Hajj and 'Umrah, etc.), and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. (Al-Baqarah 2:128)

-show us also the rituals of hajj and forgive us our sins

-they praised Him (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) for being so merciful

-they asked for the blessings on the bloodline of Ishmael

-Ishmael helped Ibrahim build the KA’BAH

-the Arabs come from the bloodline of Ishmael 

-so most Arabs are Muslim and believe in "La ilaha illalla"

-he asked also to raise up a MESSENGER [which is greater than a Prophet]

-his duaa went on to ask for also for Him (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) to be sure the bloodline would be taught al Qur'an

-and they'd be purified from superstition

"Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own (and indeed Allah answered their invocation by sending Muhammad Peace be upon him), who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (this Qur'an) and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood, etc.), and sanctify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise." (Al-Baqarah 2:129)

-also to be purified from omens [this is shirk]

-Muslims believe in QADR not omens

"Whoever cancels one's intention to do something because of attiyarah (an evil omen), that one has committed shirk"  (Imam Ahmad)

-belief in Tawheed and omens cannot go hand in hand

and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood, etc.), and sanctify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise." (Al-Baqarah 2:129)

Nothing changes destiny other than daily duaa

"Nothing could change the Qadar except Du`a’." (Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, Hadith no. 277; Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 3, Hadith no. 139; and classified as Hasan (good) Hadith by Al-Abaani in Sahih Al-Jami` Hadith no. 7687)”

Allah blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills). And with Him is the Mother of the Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz) (Ra'd 13:39)

We only get what we ask for in our duaas

I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of …al-Buhkari, Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah) Imam Nawawi’s 40 Hadith Qudsi]

If you think Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) will not remove your dire straits:  he won't

Don't insult Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) when you have a calamity / catastrophe

As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up) : "My Lord has honoured me." (15) But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!"(16) (Al-Fajr 89:15-16)

ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) ANSWERED THE DUAA OF IBRAHIM, WHICH IS HOW WE GOT MUHAMMAD (ﷺ)

-and we were given a bonus that he is a MESSENGER TO ALL OF MANKIND

-and we were given a bonus that he is a MERCY TO ALL OF MANKIND

-In the Qur'an surah An Anbiya 21:107

And We have sent you (O Muhammad ﷺ) not but as a mercy for the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Al-Anbiya 21:107)

-to man and jinn, as well

-this is why we don't make istinja with bones

-because it is the food of the jinn

THE ANSWERED DUA:

1.  RAISED UP MUHAMMAD AS A MESSENGER

2.  RAISED HIM UP AS A MERCY TO ALL OF MANKIND

And who turns away from the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) except him who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. (Al-Baqarah 2:130)

Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) stood up to deliver admonition. He said, “O people, you will be assembled before Allah naked, and uncircumcised.” Then he recited: "As we originated the first creation so We shall restore it." (21:104) He said “The first one who will be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Ibrahim... [Tirmidhi 3178, Ahmed 1950, Bukhari 3319, Muslim 2869, Nisai 2083]

THE 1ST PERSON TO BE CLOTHED ON JUDGMENT DAY WILL BE:  IBRAHIM

THE RELIGION OF IBRAHIM IS only La ilaha illalla [see 3:67]

IBRAHIM WAS NEITHER A JEW OR CHRISTIAN BUT HE WAS A TRUE / UPRIGHT MUSLIM

-he was not a pagan

Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism - to worship none but Allah Alone) and he was not of Al-Mushrikun (See V.2:105). (Aali Imran 3:67)

Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allah Alone," (Al-Mumtahinah 60:4)

IBRAHIM'S RELIGION IS KUFR BIT TAGHOOT / MONOTHEISM / LOVING AND HATING FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAH

-this is what's known as MILLAT IBRAHIM

-it's beautifully written

-nothing to deserves to be worshipped beside Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)

-to reject faith in false deities

THE PROBLEM WITH THE UMMAH TODAY

-the shaikhs say to believe in Allah [la ilaha] but they are not saying to reject the taghoot [illalla]

-the haqq is distinct from the bautil

There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah 2:256)

-truth and falsehood cannot be hand in hand 

-To believe in Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is not enough to make you a Muslim: you must reject the taghoot

-The only army we can join is the mujahideen

Those who believe, fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in the cause of Taghut (Satan, etc.). So, fight you against the friends of Shaitan (Satan); Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitan (Satan). (An-Nisa 4:76)

The believers fight for Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) and the infidels fight for the taghoot

Al walaa wal Baraa stunned so many mulanas who never heard this or fiqhul waaqi

The best of the actions is to love for the sake of Allah and to hate for the sake of Allah. [Abu Dawud 40:4582]

WHEN TRUTH COMES TO A COMMUNITY, IT SPLITS THEM INTO TWO HALVES

WE ARE NOT TO GO AGAINST THE IJMAA3 OF THE UMMAH:

1.  THE QUR'AN IS PROTECTED

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). (Al-Hijr 15:9)

2.  WE ARE NOT TO BELIEVER MUHAMMAD (ﷺ) IS NOT THE LAST PROPHET

And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) after the right path has been shown clearly to him and follows other than the believers' way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination. (An-Nisa 4:115)

Muhammad (ﷺ) is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the last (end) of the Prophets. And Allah is Ever All­ Aware of everything. (Al-Ahzab 33:40)
