9. Tafseer Al Surah Israa
Merits of the Muhammad Part 2 (ﷺ)
Morning Dars
May 20th, 2013
Verily! His Grace unto you (O
Muhammad ﷺ) is ever great. (Al-Isra 17:87)
Point 21:
If your amin coincides with the
angels, all your previous sins will be forgiven.
One example of interacting
with the aayaat is to say “Aameen” after al-Faatihah, which brings a great
reward. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“If the Imaam says ‘Aameen,’ then say ‘Aameen’ too, for whoever says ‘Aameen’
and it coincides with the ‘Aameen’ of the angels, will have all his previous
sins forgiven.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, no. 747).
-The Sunnah is to say the
ameen with a loud voice. The way the Hanafi’s
whisper is not from the Sunnah.
Imam Bukhari in his Sahih in
the Chapter: The Imam saying "Amin" aloud: 'Ata' said, "Amin' is
a supplication." Ibn az-Zubayr and those behind him used to say
"Amin" until the mosque reverberated. Abu Hurayra used to call out to
the Imam, "Do not let me miss the 'Amin'." Nafi' said, "Ibn
'Umar did not neglect to say it and encouraged other people to. I heard him say
good things about it." [Sahih Bukhari (1/156)]
Merit 22:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) could see behind him.
Narrated by 'Anas ibn Malik.
[The Prophet ﷺ said: "Straighten your rows and come close together, for
indeed I see you behind my back". [The hadith is reported by al-Bukhari
(2/176 - al-Fath, Bulaq edition), Ahmad (3/182 and 263), and al-Mukhallis in
al-Fawa'id [1/10/2]
-This is exclusive for Muhammad
(ﷺ).
Merit 23:
-All the sins of Muhammad are
forgiven, his past and future sins.
Verily, We have given you (O
Muhammad ﷺ) a manifest victory. (Al-Fath 48:1)
That Allah may forgive you
your sins of the past and the future, and complete His Favour on you, and guide
you on the Straight Path; (Al-Fath 48:2)
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray until his legs became
swollen,
Aishah (RA) said: The Prophet
(ﷺ) would stand (in
prayer) so long that the skin of his feet would crack. I asked him, "Why
do you do this while your past and future sins have been forgiven?" He
said, "Should I not be a grateful slave of Allah?" [Al-Bukhari (4837)
and Muslim (2820)]
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) caused the Prophet ﷺ to make mistakes so the people would not
worship him.
The Prophet ﷺ was infallible he did not commit any sins.
This infallibility was not
just for Muhammad ﷺ, but for all the Prophets.
How do you explain Adam eating
from the haraam tree?
Adam thought the ruling was
abrogated, because the shaitan said "Wallahi, I am speaking the
truth".
Adam didn't expect someone to
say wallahi and lie.
Merit 24:
Allah Swears for his
(Muhammad's) sake.
The kuffaar came to the
prophet and asked him a question;
The prophet said: "Come
and see me tomorrow, I will give you the answer".
But the prophet forgot to say
"In sha Allah"
The angel Gabriel didn't come.
You were told by Allah don't
say "I will do such and such, without saying In sha Allah".
And never say of anything,
"I shall do such and such thing tomorrow." (Al-Kahf 18:23)
Except (with the saying),
"If Allah will!" And remember your Lord when you forget and say:
"It may be that my Lord guides me unto a nearer way of truth than
this." (Al-Kahf 18:24)
The kuffaar were laughing at
Muhammad (ﷺ) saying that "his Lord has forsaken him".
Because the angel Gabriel
didn't come.
By the forenoon (after sun-rise); (1) And by the night when it
is still (or darkens); (2) Your Lord (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) has
neither forsaken you nor hated you. (3)And indeed the Hereafter is better for
you than the present (life of this world). (4) And verily, your Lord will give
you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased. (5) (Ad-Duha 93:1-5)
So here we see, one of the merits is that Allah swears on the
sake of Muhammad (ﷺ). To bring joy and comfort to the heart of Muhammad ﷺ.
Merit 25:
Allah never called Muhammad (ﷺ) by his name.
-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) called him by his title.
-Which is Ya Rasool Allah, Ya nabi Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).
O Prophet! Why do you ban (for
yourself) that which Allah has made lawful to you, seeking to please your
wives? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (At-Tahrim 66:1)
The Prophet ﷺ banned honey for himself, Zaynab Bint Jahsh used to have
honey in her house
-and the Rasul ﷺ used to stay long time
there drinking the honey
-and the wives plotted against
him to make him stop spending long time there
-so the Rasul stopped drinking honey so Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) revealed (66:1)
Merit 26:
Al Isra wal Miraj.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) Said:
Glorified (and Exalted) be He
(Allah) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him]Who took His slave
(Muhammad ) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haraam (at Makkah) to the
farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, in
order that We might show him (Muhammad ) of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences,
lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [Al Israa
17:1]
3 Things happened in the year of grief:
-Khadijah
died, Abu Talib died, and he was stoned in Taif.
-So Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) took him up to
himself, the seven heavens and spoke to him;
-to give him
firmness,
-and to reassure him that He (Allah) had not forsaken hi
The Prophet ﷺ took back from Al Isra wal Miraj three gifts
The first gift of Salah (Prayer)
- you were told to pray 50 times a
day, but Allah (سبحانه
وتعالىٰ) cut it down to
five times a day.
The
second gift was Baqarah 2:286.
Whatever you have evil
thoughts Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) won't hold you accountable.
Abu Qatada bin Rabiy (RA) says
he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, ‘Allah the Exalted has said, “I have ordained five
times daily salah for your followers. I have made a covenant with Myself that
whoever is regular in performing his salah at its fixed hour, he shall be
admitted into Paradise. Those of your followers, who do not guard their salah,
are not included in this covenant.”’ [Sunan Abu Dawud (1/117) No. 430]
Allah Said: 2:286
Allāh burdens not a person
beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is
punished for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if
we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which
You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a
burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us
Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulā (Patron, Supporter and
Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people." (Al-Baqarah
2:286)
Al Baqarah 2:286 abrogated 2:284
To Allāh belongs all that is
in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and whether you disclose what is
in your own selves or conceal it, Allāh will call you to account for it. Then
He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allāh is Able to do
all things. (Al-Baqarah 2:284)
The Third gift was the multiplication
of our pious deeds.
Whenever you do a bad deed it
is written down as one bad deed;
However, whenever you do a
good deed it is written down as 10 good deeds or even 700 good deeds.
"I have decreed My
Obligation and have reduced the burden on My slaves, and I shall reward a
single good deed as if it were ten good deeds." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4,
Book 54, Hadith #429]
Merit 27:
Muhammad (ﷺ) Many Miracles.
This miracle is in the Qur’an:
-We choose to speak about The
Splitting of the Moon.
-Because this miracle in the
Quran
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Said: 54 1-2
The Hour has drawn near, and
the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet
Muhammad to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon).[Al
Qamar 54:1]
And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is
continuous magic." [Al Qamar 54:2]
During the lifetime of the
Prophet ﷺ the moon was split
into two parts and on that the Prophet said, "Bear witness (to
thus)." [Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 830]
-The greatest miracle of Muhammad
ﷺ is the Quran
-because it is a living
miracle,
-it guides past, present and
future generations.
-Another miracle was the
stones of Makkah used to greet him,
-and his food used to give
praise to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ), as he ate.
-Another miracle, the camel of
Jaabir,
-It was old and the Prophet ﷺ hit it and it became young.
Merit 28:
Allah gave Muhammad a sublime
character.
And verily, you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are on an exalted standard of
character.[4] [Al Qalam 68:4]
Abu Huraira narrated the
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "I was sent to perfect good character." [Al-Adab
al-Mufrad al-Bukhari, No. 273, Muwatta Malik (2/75) No. 1885, Musnad Ahmad
(2/381) No. 8939, Mustadrak al-Haakim (2/670) No. 4221]
He it is Who sent among the
unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) from among themselves, reciting to them
His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and
teaching them the Book (this Qur'an, Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence)
and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad
ﷺ). And verily, they
had been before in manifest error; [2] (Al-Jumu'ah 62:2)
Merit 29:
The Prophet's image was
comprehensive
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said:
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah
(Muhammad ﷺ)
you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah
and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.[21] (Al-Ahzab 33:21)
-His image is comprehensive means
the Prophet ﷺ was a husband
-and a father, step father
-he was a father in law also a
grandfather.
-He was a foster son
-and he treated Halimah like
his mother though she was his foster mother.
-He was a foster brother,
-he had many foster brothers.
-The Prophet ﷺ was a son in law
-The Prophet ﷺ was a legislator [law giver]
-in his capacity as a Prophet ﷺ.
-He was and arbitrator in
disputes
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
said in surah An Nisa 65
But no, by your Lord, they can
have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad ﷺ) judge in all disputes between them, and
find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with
full submission. [65] (An-Nisa 4:65)
The Prophet (ﷺ) was a military strategist.
And (remember) when you
(Muhammad SAW) left your household in the morning to post the believers at
their stations for the battle (of Uhud). And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
[121] (Al Imran 3:121)
-the kuffaar say the
Prophet ﷺ is the only man to
successfully combine the spiritual and political aspects.
Merits 30
Muhammad’s Book, The Quran, is
Comprehensive
-nothing is left out of the
Quran
Allah (سبحانه
Said:
We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto
their Lord they (all) shall be gathered. [38] (Al-An'am 6:38)
-everything
is in the Quran
-any
topic you can think of is there in the Quran
-from
science to criminology
-when
the brothers of Yusuf dumped Yusuf in the well
-they
did that because of sibling rivalry and that is psychology
-when
they told their father that the wolves ate Yusuf but there were no holes in the
shirt - that’s criminology
-and
when Zulaikha tore Yusuf shirt from his back, that is sexual harassment
-a
woman carries out sexual harassment and is more vicious
-because
women don’t like no for an answer
-Zulaikha
told Yusuf he will go to jail because he didn’t go to bed with her
-that’s
called vindictiveness
-
so from these examples we can see Allah didn’t not leave anything out of the
Quran
-
it shows the Quran is comprehensive
-but we can never appreciate the Quran till a scholar gives us the tafseer of the Quran
MERIT
31:
The Prophet was the Imam of the other
Prophets in masjid ul Aqsa
- He led them is Salaah
Then Allah raised it (Bait-ul-Maqdis) before my eyes. I looked towards it, and I gave them the information about whatever they questioned me I also saw myself among the group of apostles. I saw Moses (عليهالسلام) saying prayer and found him to be a well-built man as if he was a man of the tribe of Shanu'a. I saw Jesus son of Mary (عليهالسلام) offering prayer, of all of men he had the closest resemblance with 'Urwa b. Masu'd al-Thaqafi. I saw Ibrahim (عليهالسلام) offering prayer; he had the closest resemblance with your companion (the Prophet himself) amongst people. When the time of prayer came I led them. When I completed the prayer, someone said: Here is Malik, the keeper of the Hell; pay him salutations. I turned to him, but he preceded me in salutation. [Sahih Muslim Book 001, Number 0328:]
-this incident shows that
salah was made incumbent on the previous ummah.
-and the way they prayed
was exactly the way we pray
MERIT 32:
Two women from his household are among
the 4 special women of paradise
-Khadijah and Fatimah
The 4 women of paradise are
-Asiyyah
the wife of pharaoh
-Maryam
mother of Isa
-Khadijah
and
-Fatima
The women of Paradise are of different grades, and the leaders of the women of Paradise are Khadijah, Fatimah, Maryam (Mary), and Aasiyah. Imam Ahmad reported with an authentic chain of narration that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) drew four lines and said to the Companions, "Do you know what these are?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "The best women of the women of Paradise are Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, Maryam bint `Imran, and Aasiyah bint Muzahim (the wife of the Pharaoh)."
MERIT
33:
The grandsons of the Prophet Hassan and
Hussein will be the special youths of paradise
Narrated by Abu Sa'id: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Al-Hasan and al-Husayn (the sons of Ali) will be the chief ones among the youths who go to Paradise." [Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 6154]
The Prophet ﷺ declared: “these two
sons of mine are the leaders of the youth in Paradise.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Kitab
al-Manaqib, Manaqib Abi Muhammad al-Hasan, Hadith no. 3793,Vol. 5, Page 426].
MERIT 34:
The Prophet ﷺ will
be the first to be resurrected on the Day of Judgement
“Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet ﷺ said, “The people will fall unconscious on the Day of Resurrection, then suddenly I will see Moses holding one of the pillars of the Throne.” Abu Huraira said: The Prophet ﷺ said, “I will be the first person to be resurrected and will see Moses holding the Throne.” (Bukhari Volume 9, Book 93, Number 524)
Abu
Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “I am the most noble of Adam’s descendants on the Day of
Resurrection. I am the first whose grave shall be opened. I am the first to
offer intercession. I am the first whose intercession shall be accepted.” [Sahih
Muslim (4/1782) No. 2278]
