11. TAFSEER SURAH ISRAA
WAS MUHAMMAD NOOR OR BASHR (Human Being)
May 29, 2013, Wednesday
(Morning Dars)
Was Prophet Muhammad a
"Noor" or "Bashar", and is it true that he had no shade,
even in light?
Praise be to Allaah. Our
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is the leader of all the sons of Adam, and he is a human
being, one of the sons of Adam. He was born from two parents, he ate food and
married women, he got hungry and fell sick, and he felt joy and sorrow.
One of the clearest signs of
his humanity is that Allaah caused him to die as He causes all souls to die,
but what distinguishes the Prophet (ﷺ) from others is Prophethood and
Revelation.
Allaah says (interpretation of
the meaning):
“Say (O Muhammad): I am only a man like you.
It has been revealed to me that your Ilaah (God) is One Ilaah (God i.e.
Allaah)” [al-Kahf 110]
The state of the Prophet (ﷺ) in his humanity is the same as that of
all the Prophets and Messengers. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies
that ate not food, nor were they immortals” [Al-Anbiya’ 8]
Allaah condemned those who
wondered at the humanity of the Messenger (ﷺ), as He says (interpretation of the
meaning):
“And they say: Why does this
Messenger (Muhammad) eat food, and walk about in the markets (as we)…?”
[al-Furqaan 8]
It is not permissible to
overstep the mark with regard to what the Qur’aan states about the message and
humanity of the Prophet (ﷺ). For example, it is not permissible to describe him (ﷺ) as being noor (light) or as casting no
shadow, or to say that he was created from light.
Rather this is a kind of
exaggeration which the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade when he said: “Do not exaggerate
about me as was exaggerated about ‘Eesa (Jesus) ibn Maryam. Say: the slave of
Allaah and His Messenger.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6830.
Moreover, it is proven that
the angels are the ones who were created from light, not any of the sons of
Adam. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The angels were created from light, and Iblees was
created from smokeless fire and Adam (peace be upon him) was created from what
has been described to you.” Narrated by Muslim, 2996.
Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Silsilah
al-Saheehah (458):
This indicates that the well
known hadeeth (report) that is in circulation among people – “The first thing that Allaah
created was the light of your Prophet, O Jaabir” – is false, and so are other
similar ahaadeeth (narrations) which say that the Prophet (ﷺ) was created from light. This hadeeth
clearly indicates that the angels are the only ones who are created from light,
not Adam and his sons, so pay heed and do not be negligent. End quote.
The Standing Committee for
Issuing Fatwas (religious verdicts) was asked the following question:
Here in Pakistan the scholars
of the Bareilawi sect believe that the Prophet (ﷺ) cast no shadow, which indicates that the
Prophet (ﷺ) was not human. Is this hadeeth saheeh (authentic) which says
that the Prophet (ﷺ) had no shadow?
They replied:
This view is false and goes
against the texts of the Qur’aan and the saheeh Sunnah which indicate that the
Prophet (ﷺ) was human and did not differ in his human make-up from other
people.
He had a shadow like any other
human. The Prophet hood with which Allaah honoured him did not alter the fact
that he was human as Allaah created him, with a father and mother. Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):
“Say (O Muhammad): I am only a
man like you. It has been revealed to me that your Ilaah (God) is One Ilaah
(God i.e. Allaah)” [Al-Kahf 18:110]
“Their
Messengers said to them: We are no more than human beings like you” [Ibrahim
14:11]
With regard to the report that
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was created from the
light of Allaah, this is a fabricated hadeeth. End quote.
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah,
1/464
Say (O Muhammad ﷺ): "I am only a man like you. It has
been inspired to me that your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God i.e. Allah). So
whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and
associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord."(Al-Kahf 18:110)
Narrated By 'Aisha: Abu Bakr came from his house at As-Sunh on a horse. He dismounted and entered the Mosque, but did not speak to the people until he entered upon 'Aisha and went straight to Allah's Apostle who was covered with Hibra cloth (i.e. a kind of Yemenite cloth). He then uncovered the Prophet's face and bowed over him and kissed him and wept, saying, "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you. By Allah, Allah will never cause you to die twice. As for the death which was written for you, has come upon you." Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Abu Bakr went out while Umar bin Al-Khattab was talking to the people. Abu Bakr said, "Sit down, O 'Umar!" But 'Umar refused to sit down. So the people came to Abu Bakr and left Umar. Abu Bakr said, "To proceed, if anyone amongst you used to worship Muhammad, then Muhammad is dead, but if (anyone of) you used to worship Allah, then Allah is Alive and shall never die. Allah said: "Muhammad is no more than an Apostle and indeed (many) apostles have passed away before him... (until the end of the Verse)... Allah will reward to those who are thankful." (3.144) By Allah, it was as if the people never knew that Allah had revealed this Verse before till Abu Bakr recited it and all the people received it from him, and I heard everybody reciting it (then). [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 5, Book 59, Hadith #733]
Narrated Ibn Mas’ud Allah’s Apostle taught me the Tashah-hud as he taught me a Sura from the Quran, while my hand was between his hands. (Tashah-hud was) all the best compliments and the prayers and the good things are for Allah. Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be on you, O Prophet! Peace be on us and on the pious slaves of Allah, I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I also testify that Muhammad is Allah's slave and His Apostle. (We used to recite this in the prayer) during the lifetime of the Prophet, but when he had died, we used to say, "Peace be on the Prophet." [Bukhari -Volume 8, Book 74, Number 281
It was narrated that Ibn
Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) taught me the tashahhud with my hand
between his hands, just as he taught me a soorah from the Qur’aan: “Al-tahiyyaatu Lillaahi wa’l-salawaatu wa’l-tayyibaat al-salaamu
‘alayka ayyuha’l-nabiyyu… (All
compliments, prayers and good words are for Allaah, peace be upon you, O
Prophet…).” (That was) when he was still among us. When he passed away, we
started to say, “al-salaam ‘ala al-nabi (peace be upon the Prophet (ﷺ).” [Bukhari]
- All the hadith they brought
to say Muhammad was noor, were fabricated hadith, and the Sufis like to quote
fabricated hadith.
- It is proven that the angels
were created from light,
- Muhammad came from parents;
he was born from a womb
- None of the sons of Adam
were created from light.
In the Qurah Allah Said: 15:26
Verily We created man of potter's
clay of black mud altered, (Al Hijr 15:26) [Pickthal]
- You are not allowed to take your deen from the Goofy Sufi and
the Shia,
- They have no shame; all they
do is lie, lie, and lie
- They lie as if to say that
they do not believe in Allah and Judgement Day.
- He had a shadow like any
other human.
Abu Talhah (RA) narrated: We complained to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) about our hunger and rising from our stomach (the garment) bared the stone each of us had tied to it. He showed that he had two stones (tied to his stomach.) [At-Tirmidhi (4/585) No.2371, Bayhaqi in ‘Shu'ab al Emaan’ (13/54) No.9943]
The Prophet (saws) had two
stones tied to his stomach.
- It did not make him any
different because he was a prophet.
- The split between the
Brevalis and the Deobandis.
- Brevalis say Muhammad was
noor,
- Deobandis say Muhammad was
bashr. (human)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Said: 18:110
Say (O Muhammad SAW) : "I
am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your Ilah (God) is One
Ilah (God i.e. Allah). So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him
work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his
Lord." (Al-Kahf 18:110)
This is the ayah that Abu Bakr
used to calm Umar down
-after the death of the
prophet.
Muhammad (ﷺ) is no more than a Messenger, and indeed
(many) Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will
you then turn back on your heels (as disbelievers)? And he who turns back on
his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah, and Allah will give reward
to those who are grateful. (Al Imran 3:144)
Those who say that Muhammad was
noor,
- Because he is still alive in his grave,
- and we are allowed to ask
him, pray to him etc.
Narrated Anas: The Prophet ﷺ said, "Some of my companions will
come to me at my Lake Fount, and after I recognize them, they will then be
taken away from me, whereupon I will say, 'My companions!' Then it will be
said, 'You do not know what they innovated (new things) in the religion after
you."(Bukhari, Muslim)
Muhammad will ask about his
companions,
- The angels will tell him,
"You do not know what they did after you">
- Question: If Muhammad is
alive in the grave and didn't lose faculties. How is it that
he doesn't know what the people did.?
- They pray to Muhammad ﷺ and beg him for what they want.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
said in the Quran surah 35 verse 14
If you invoke (or call upon)
them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could
not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will
disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad ﷺ) like Him Who is the All Knower (of each
and everything) (Fatir: 35:14)
This is the knock-out punch for
the grave worshippers:
- There is a hadith which says
that the dead can hear the salaam
- and the footsteps in the
grave.
“When an individual is placed
in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their footsteps, two
angels come to him, make him sit and ask: “What did you use to say regarding
this man (i.e. Muhammad, ﷺ)? The believer will say: “I bear testimony that he is the
servant and Messenger of Allah” It will be said to him: “Look at your place in
the fire of Hell, Allah has changed instead of it a place for you in Paradise”
So he will see both of his places (Sahih al-Bukhari, no.1308 & Sahih
Muslim, no. 2870)
- But Allah has blocked them
so that they cannot hear the dua / calls of the people.
Allah said in Quran Surah Al
Israa Verse 94
And nothing prevented men from
believing when the guidance came to them, except that they said: "Has
Allah sent a man as (His) Messenger?"(Al Israa 17:94)
This ayah is of vital
importance:
- They were surprised that
Allah would send a man as a messenger.
Lessons we learn from this ayah:
LESSON 1: - Kuffaar will always
search for a reason to disbelieve
- They couldn't say that the
character of the Prophet was evil,
- they used to call him
"al-Amin".
- They couldn't say he seduced
our wives and daughters,
- They couldn't say he sold us
faulty goods,
- They couldn't use the
character of Muhammad against him.
- Allah Said: Surah - Ash-Sharh 94
Have We not opened your breast
for you (O Muhammad (ﷺ))( 1) And removed from you your burden, (2) Which weighed down
your back? (3) (Ash-Sharh 94:1-3)
The only argument they could use
against Muhammad (ﷺ)
- was that he was a man like
them.
- You cannot use that as a
weakness.
- You cannot use his race,
colour etc, to assassinate his character,
- and you cannot use his
physical make-up against him and to reject the truth.
Allah (سبحانه
said in Quran surah 36:15
They (people of the town)
said: "You are only human beings like ourselves, and the Most Beneficent
(Allah) has revealed nothing, you are only telling lies." (Ya Sin 36:15)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Sent three messengers to the people of Antarka in Turkey,
- They people rejected all
three messengers,
- the only reason they
provided to reject the three messengers, was that they were
human / men like them.
- We brought this evidence
forth to show that history repeats
- Kuffaar speak the same with
the same tongue,
- They are alike
- Whatever disability you have
the people will use it against you.
- They look for every single
weakness against you.
- when you are a torch bearer
of the truth,
- When Musa went to Fir awn,
they used his speech impediment as an argument
against him.
Allah (سبحانه
said in Quran surah 43 verses 52
"Am I not better than
this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is
weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? (Az-Zukhruf
43:52)
- That is the modus operandi
of the kuffaar. To finish you off, assassinate your character, in any way they can.
- When you are a shaikh, you
cannot just marry any woman:
- If there is a divorce she
may turn on you and assassinate your character.
- The Sun newspaper laughed at
Sheikh Abu Hamza Al Misri,
- They laughed about his
disability, that he lost his hands (in Jihaad).
- We brought you the above
ayah, (Az-Zukhruf 43:52): Then we told you about the
Sun newspaper.
- This is proof that history
repeats itself,
- The kuffaar are alike.
- Allah Said: Al Baqarah 2:118
Their hearts are alike...
(Surah Baqarah 2:118)
- They give challenges to try
to prove that a prophet is fake:
- They wanted a river,
- The Arabs gave the prophet
Saleh a challenge,
- When the she-camel came out
of the rock, they killed the she-camel.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
said in Quran Surah Al Ar’af 7:134-135
- Firawn said to Musa:
وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّجْزُ قَالُوا يَا
مُوسَى ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ ۖ لَئِن كَشَفْتَ عَنَّا
الرِّجْزَ لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
And when the punishment fell
on them they said: "O Musa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His
Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall
believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you." (Al
Ar’af 7:134)
But when We removed the
punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They
broke their word! (Al Araf 7:135)
This means that you The Firawn
believe in God.
- If you didn't believe then
why did you ask Musa to pray to his Lord.
- You acknowledged the
existence of Allah.
- Firawn acknowledged the
existence of Allah.
- The punishment that is
mentioned here:
- Is the flood.
- They did not do what they
promised to do.
- Obama promised to close
GITMO before his election as president, but he still didn't close it.
Allah said in Quran surah Al
Ankabok Verse 65
And when they embark on a
ship, they invoke Allah, making their Faith pure for Him only, but when He
brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship to
others. (Al Ankabook 29:65)
- We can bring you many verses
in the Quran were Mentioned that kuffaar broke their promises
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
said in Surah Al Mu’uminun Verse 99-100
Until, when death comes to one
of them (those who join partners with Allah), he says: "My Lord! Send me
back, (Al Mu’uminun 23:99)
So that I may do good in that
which I have left behind!" No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind
them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected. (Al
Mu’nminu 23:100)
- Sins are very addictive.
- George Best: They gave him a
new liver, he promised to give up alcohol. He went ahead and drank himself to
death.
- There is a pleasure centre
in the brain, this gets addicted to sins.
- There is a pleasure centre
in the brain, this is why you get addicted to sins.
- The people of Sodom and
Gomarah couldn't give up homosexuality, they were addicted to it.
In Quran Allah Said Surah 17:95
Say: "If there were on
the earth, angels walking about in peace and security, We should certainly have
sent down for them from the heaven an angel as a Messenger." (Al Isra 17:95)
- This just makes sense.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
gave the reason why he didn't send an angel as a messenger:
- His servants on earth are
humans, so he sent a man as messenger.
- But if there were angels on
earth, He Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
would have sent an angel.
- If Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
had sent an angel as a messenger, man would use it as an argument against
Allah (سبحانه
on the day of Judgement.
- Man would say: We couldn't
fast Ramadhan, it was too difficult, but the angels were
able to do so.
- They were angels, and they
were strong.
- I am a man and weak, I could
not practice Islam like them.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Is The All-Wise.
Abu Talhah (RA) narrated: We
complained to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) about our hunger and raising from our
stomach (the garment) bared the stone each of us had tied to it. He showed that
he had two stones (tied to his stomach.) [At-Tirmidhi (4/585) No.2371, Bayhaqi
in ‘Shu'ab al Emaan’ (13/54) No.9943]
- The Prophet suffered just like
you:
Narrated By Anas bin Malik: We
went with Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) to the blacksmith Abu Saif, and he was
the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah's
Apostle took Ibrahim and kissed him and smelled him and later we entered Abu
Saif's house and at that time Ibrahim was in his last breaths, and the eyes of
Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) started shedding tears. 'Abdur Rahman bin 'Auf said, "O
Allah's Apostle, even you are weeping!" He said, "O Ibn 'Auf, this is
mercy." Then he wept more and said, "The eyes are shedding tears and
the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord, O
Ibrahim ! Indeed we are grieved by your separation." [Sahih Bukhari (2/83) No.1303]
- He suffered disappointments
just like you.
- He cried when his son died.
- He loved his son. (Just like
you).
- The mentality of man is that
he is always looking for a way out. (way to escape).
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
pre-empted you by sending a human messenger.
Say: "Sufficient is Allah
for a witness between me and you. Verily! He is the All-Knower, the All-Seer of
His slaves." (Al Isra 17:96)
The Tafseer is:
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
is going to make my religion become victorious in front of your eyes, before I
die.
Allah Said:
And those who disbelieve, say:
"You (O Muhammad ﷺ) are not a Messenger." Say: "Sufficient for a witness
between me and you is Allah and those too who have knowledge of the Scripture
(such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews and Christians who embraced
Islam)." (Ar Rad 13:43)
These ayat are similar.
- The Jews knew Muhammad was
the messenger of Allah ﷺ.
- And Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
was a witness to that.
Allah Said in Quran Surah 48:28
He it is Who has sent His
Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), that He may
make it (Islam) superior over all religions. And All-Sufficient is Allah as a
Witness. (Al Fath 48:28)
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) Is Sufficient as a Witness:
- I (Allah) Will Make the
religion of Muhammad the (one and only) victorious religion in the world.
-Because Allah Said in Quran
Surah 17:81
And say: "Truth has come
and Batil has vanished. Surely! Batil is ever bound to vanish." (Al Isra
17:81)
-The enemies of Allah are
spending their money to fight Islam,
Allah said in Quran
Surah Al A’raf 36
Verily, those who disbelieve
spend their wealth to hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, and so will they
continue to spend it; but in the end it will become an anguish for them. Then
they will be overcome. And those who disbelieve will be gathered unto Hell.
(Al’raf 7:36)
- Islam is the fastest growing
religion!
- They are going to become
bankrupt and confined to the dustbin of history.
And he whom Allah guides, he
is led aright; but he whom He sends astray for such you will find no Auliya'
(helpers and protectors, etc.), besides Him, and We shall gather them together
on the Day of Resurrection on their faces, blind, dumb and deaf, their abode will
be Hell; whenever it abates, We shall increase for them the fierceness of the
Fire (Al Israa 17:97)
- Tafseer:
- Guidance is from Allah,
- It is in The Hands Of Allah.
- Allah is Al-Hadee
Allah Said in Quran Surah Al Qasas Verse 56
Verily! You (O Muhammad ﷺ) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides
whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided. (Al Qasas 28:56)
Allah is Al-Hadee = The One
Who Guides
-Your job is to give the
message.
Allah Said Quran Surah Ya Sin
verse 17
"And our duty is only to
convey plainly (the Message)." (Ya Sin 36:17)
- It is Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Who Guides.
- So Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Said: Whomsoever He Guides, no one can misguide.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
guides the sincere, those who seek the truth.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) does not guide the
arrogant.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Said: Whomsoever Allah leads astray, none can guide him.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
does not guide the arrogant/ proud.
- Like: Nimrod, Firawn and Abu
Jahl.
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) guides those who are humble and sincere.
- The jabriyyah ask: How can
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
punish a man with the hell-fire, when it was He Allah who sealed the heart of
the man?
- The Jabriyyah is the fatalist;
he blames Qadr for his own sins.
They quote Al baqarah verse 7 as
their evidence.
Allah has set a seal on their
hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah's
Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great
torment. (Al Baqarah 2:7)
- We say to the Jabriyyah,
Allah told us in the Quran that when they rebelled against the message, then He
sealed their hearts
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
Said: in Surah 61 verse 5
So when they turned away (from
the Path of Allah), Allah turned their hearts away (from the Right Path) (As
Saff 61:5)
and We shall gather them
together on the Day of Resurrection on their faces [Al Furqan 25:34]
- That is humiliation.
- The reason for this is that
when they were in the dunya they were proud and arrogant.
- They try to insult the believers;
they pour scorn on Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
and His Deen.
- So Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
will humiliate them on the day of Judgement.
- They use
cartoons/movies/books to insult Allah and His Rasool.
They are Deaf, Dumb And Blind (Al
Baqarah 2:18)
- They were deaf dumb and
blind in the dunya
- They use these faculties to
spread mischief in the land.
- They did not listen nor
speak the haqq.
- The way you treated Allah in
the dunya, Allah will treat you the same way in the akhirah.
- Allah is Al Muntaqim = The
Avenger
- The One Who Is Severe In
Taking Revenge.
Allah Said: in Quran surah
Ibrahim verse 47
So think not that Allah will fail to keep His Promise to His Messengers. Certainly, Allah is All-Mighty, - All-Able of Retribution. (Ibrahim 14:47)
