Tafseer Al Quran (Take Care of Your Heart) [notes]

  بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

15.  TAFSEER SURAH ISRAA

TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEART

12 June 2013 Wednesdays

(Morning Dars)

AYAH 108:

وَيَقُولُونَ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنْ كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُولًا

And they say: “Glory be to our Lord! Truly, the Promise of our Lord must be fulfilled.” (Al-Isra 17:108)

-The meaning of the expression “Glory be to our Lord” is that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is above all imperfections.

-This expression also means Allah is above all the weaknesses that the infidels attributed to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) told us what to say in surah 37:180-182

Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! (180) And peace be on the Messengers! (181) And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).(182) (As-Saffat 37:180-182)

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is free from all the weaknesses that the infidels attributed to Him.

-Whenever you are praying behind the imam and the imam makes a mistake you correct the mistake by saying subhanallah.

-You correct him by saying subhanallah because you are reminding the imam that he is only a man so he makes mistakes.

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is free from making mistakes.

-Women clap when correcting the mistakes of an imam in the masjid; they don’t say subhanallah.

-If a woman is praying behind her husband she can say subhanallah.

-One of the examples of the infidels attributing weaknesses to Allah can be found in

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said in surah 5:64.

The Jews say: “Allah’s Hand is tied up (i.e. He does not give and spend of His Bounty).” Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for what they uttered. Nay, both His Hands are widely outstretched. He spends (of His Bounty) as He wills. Verily, the Revelation that has come to you from Allah increases in most of them their obstinate rebellion and disbelief. We have put enmity and hatred amongst them till the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindled the fire of war, Allah extinguished it; and they (ever) strive to make mischief on earth. And Allah does not like the Mufsidun (mischief makers). (Al-Ma’idah 5:64)

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) told us that the Jews say that Allah’s (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) hands are tied in the above ayah.

-When Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said that the Jews are cursed for making this statement, it means that the hands of the Jews are tied and they have become stingy.

-The curse came back to them.

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) put a curse on them in the above ayah (5:64).

-Another example of people slandering Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) can be found in surah 3:181

Indeed, Allah has heard the statement of those (Jews) who say: “Truly, Allah is poor and we are rich!” We shall record what they have said and their killing of the Prophets unjustly, and We shall say: “Taste you the torment of the burning (Fire).” (Al Imran 3:181)

-One day Abu Bakr punched a Jew in the face.

-This Jew went to the Prophet and told him that Abu Bakr punched him for no reason.

-The Prophet asked Abu Bakr why he punched the Jew.

-Abu Bakr said he punched the Jew because the Jew said

-that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is poor and they are rich; the Jew denied saying this.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) revealed surah 3:181.

-Many ayahs came down for Abu Bakr; this is just one of them.

-The Christians say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) rested on the seventh day and the Jews have this belief as well.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. [King James Version: Genesis Chapter 2:2]

-This is another example of people slandering Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

-When a Muslim says subhanallah, the Muslim is saying that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is above all imperfections and above all the weaknesses the infidels attribute to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

-The Christians say that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) repented for making man.

And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. [Genesis 6:6 (KJV)]

-The kuffaar accuse Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) of making taubah in Genesis 6:6; this is called blasphemy.

-They are slandering Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) by accusing Him of repenting.

-Their situation is pitiful, appalling and pathetic.

-They don’t understand tauheed Asma wa Sifaat.

-You, the Muslim, are the only one who understands this concept.

-You only attribute Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) with His 99 names and you don’t attribute anything else to him.

This is why Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) called you the best ummah in surah 3:110.

You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah – and rebellious against Allah’s Command). (Al Imran 3:110)

-You are the only people in the world who understand Tauheed properly.

-The Jews say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is poor and they are rich.

-The Christians say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) rested on the seventh day.

-So the Jews and the Christians slander Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

-The goofy Sufis slander Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) by saying Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is everywhere.

-So they are saying that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is in the brothel and the pigsty.

-The Sufis say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is everywhere because they believe in wahdatul wujood (union).

-They can’t believe Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is above the arsh.

-They have to believe Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is everywhere to facilitate their ideology of wahdatul wujood (union).

-So the expression subhanallah means that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is above the human imperfections that the kuffaar, the mushrikeen and the zanaadiqa (heretics) attribute to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

-Those who say that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) appeared on earth in the form of man and that

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) begot a son slander Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) as well.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. [John 3:16 (NKJV)]

-Those who say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)  is everywhere slander Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)  as well.

-Those who say to dismantle the sharia of Allah is a minor kufr slander

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) as well; this is the slander of a Saudi Salafi.

And they say: “Glory be to our Lord! Truly, the Promise of our Lord must be fulfilled.” (Al-Isra 17:108)

-The promise of our Lord must be fulfilled.

-The question is: what is the promise of our Lord?

-Every prediction in the Holy Quran is a promise of our Lord.

This is one tafseer.

-Every prediction that was made from the lips of Muhammad is a promise of our Lord because Muhammad doesn’t speak from hawa.

-He speaks from revelation revealed to him.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) told you that in surah 53:3-4.

Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. (An-Najm 53:3)

It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. (An-Najm 53:4)

-Therefore, every single prediction made from the lips of Muhammad is a promise of your Lord.

-Why do you think in Dubai you have the tallest building in the world?

-The Saudis said they are going to build a taller building called the kingdom tower from where Egypt can be seen.

-The Arabs are competing in building tall buildings.

-The Prophet () told Jibril that one of the signs of Judgments Day is the barefooted Arabs competing in building lofty buildings.

And when is the Hour?” He said, “The one who is questioned does not know more about it than the one who asks.” He asked, “Then what are its Signs?” He said, “That a maid-servant will beget her mistress and that you see barefooted, naked-bodied, helpless shepherds construct tall buildings.” [Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005,Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]

-The promise of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is when Allah promised that Islam will dominate the world.

-That is the third tafseer.

-Where is the promise of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) in the Quran?

Surah 9:32 is one promise of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

They (the disbelievers, the Jews and the Christians) want to extinguish Allah’s Light (with which Muhammad SAW has been sent – Islamic Monotheism) with their mouths, but Allah will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the Kafirun (disbelievers) hate (it). (At-Tawbah 9:32)

-This is one example of Allah’s (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) promise in the Quran.

-Another example of Allah’s (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) promise is surah 8:36.

Verily, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, and so will they continue to spend it; but in the end it will become an anguish for them. Then they will be over-comed. And those who disbelieve will be gathered unto Hell. (Al-Anfal 8:36)

The kuffaar will suffer a humiliating defeat, at the hands of the mujahideen.

The other promise of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is in surah 61:9.

He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad () ) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikun hate (it). (As-Saff 61:9)

The other promise of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) can be found in surah 93:5.

And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased. (Ad-Duha 93:5)

-Muhammad will live to see the success of his mission.

-Makkah will fall at his hands.

-This is the tafseer of this ayah.

-Some people plant a seed but don’t live to see the tree grow.

-He lived to see the fruits of the tree he planted.

-This is another promise of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

-All the promises of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) shall come to pass because Allah doesn’t break His promises.

The evidence for this is surah 3:194.

For You never break (Your) Promise.” (Al Imran 3:194)

AYAH 109:

وَيَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ يَبْكُونَ وَيَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعًا ۩

And they fall down on their faces weeping and it adds to their humility. (Al-Isra 17:109)

-Whenever a person is sincere, when they hear the Quran, they have to cry.

-It is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of spiritual strength.

-The Prophet used to cry.

-He was not weak; he was strong.

-When you cannot cry, you are spiritually weak and your heart is hard like rock.

-If you can’t cry something is wrong with your heart.

Then, after that, your hearts were hardened and became as stones or even worse in hardness. And indeed, there are stones out of which rivers gush forth, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which split asunder so that water flows from them, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do. (Al-Baqarah 2:74)

-The Prophet and Abu Bakr used to cry when they heard the Qur’an.

-Allah made it haraam for two sets of eyes to be burnt in the hellfire.

Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that he heard Allah’s Messenger () say, ‘(There are) two eyes that the Fire will never touch, the eye that wept from fear of Allah and the eye that stood guard in the night in Allah’s path.” [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/175) No. 1639 and Shu’ab al-Eman al-Bayhaqi (3/227) No. 1639]

-Seven people will be under the shade of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)  on the Day of Judgement. -One of them is a man who cried in private when remembering Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ).

Abu Huraira narrated the Prophet () said: “There are seven whom Allah will shade in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His Shade: a just ruler; a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; a man whose heart is attached to the mosques; two men who love each other for Allah's sake, meeting for that and parting upon that a man who is called by a woman of beauty and position [for illegal intercourse], but be says: 'I fear Allah', a man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity; and a man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears.' [Al-Bukhari (660) and Muslim (1031)]

-For you to cry, it is a sign of power.

-When the Prophet’s son passed away, he cried.

Narrated By Anas bin Malik: We went with Allah’s Apostle () to the blacksmith Abu Saif, and he was the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah’s Apostle took Ibrahim and kissed him and smelled him and later we entered Abu Saif’s house and at that time Ibrahim was in his last breaths, and the eyes of Allah’s Apostle () started shedding tears. ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Auf said, “O Allah’s Apostle, even you are weeping!” He said, “O Ibn ‘Auf, this is mercy.” Then he wept more and said, “The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord, O Ibrahim ! Indeed we are grieved by your separation.”[Sahih Bukhari (2/83) No. 1303]

-If you cry, it means Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) blessed you with a good heart.

-If you cannot cry, your heart is evil and corrupted.

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said that the sincere ones fall down on their faces weeping and it increases their humility.

-Not only can humility be increased, but Yaqeen can also be increased too.

-The evidence to prove that your Taqwa and Imaan can be increased is surah 3:173.

Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, “Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them.” But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: “Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).” (Al Imran 3:173)

The other evidence is surah 9:124.

And whenever there comes down a Surah (chapter from the Qur’an), some of them (hypocrites) say: “Which of you has had his Faith increased by it?” As for those who believe, it has increased their Faith, and they rejoice. (At-Tawbah 9:124)

-The hypocrites asked the question in the above ayah (9:124) sarcastically.

-Kufr, shirk and hypocrisy can be increased.

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said in surah 2:10 Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) that He has increased the disease which is in the hearts of the hypocrites.

In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies.(Al-Baqarah 2:10)

-Since you know that kufr, shirk and hypocrisy can be increased, you need to take care of your heart by mixing with the right company.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) recommends for us the right company in surah 4:69

And whoso obeys Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad ()), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqun (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As Siddiq), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are! (An-Nisa 4:69)

-You take care of your heart by mixing with the right company.

-Kufr can be increased and imaan can increase too.

-Therefore it is incumbent upon us to take care of our hearts.

-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) told you in surah 25:28 that a person will regret taking so-and-so as a friend.

Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend! (Al-Furqan 25:28)
