3. TAFSEER SURAH ISRAA
THE GREAT INTERCESSION BELONGS TO MUHAMMAD
ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT

وَإِن كَادُوا لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِيَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُ ۖ وَإِذًا لَّاتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلًا
Verily, they were about to tempt you away from that which We have revealed (the Quran) unto you (O Muhammad SAW), to fabricate something other than it against Us, and then they would certainly have taken you a friend! [Al Israa 17:73]
– This ayah tells you that people like to
fabricate stories.
– then say that Allah said so”
– People like to
describe Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) with names and attributes that He Allah
did not describe himself with
– In the time of the prophet (ﷺ)
– The kuffaar were not happy with what
Allah had revealed
– They approached the prophet asking him
to change the Quran
– So Allah revealed the above ayah
– if you compromise on your deen;
– they will then say you are their friends
– Allah told you they want you to compromise
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) say in Ayat 68 verse 9
وَدُّوا
لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
They wish that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy) with them, so they (too) would compromise with you. [Al Qalam 68:9]
– the reason is; they claim that Islam is
too restrictive
– they want you to stop wearing hijab and
niqab;
– stop growing your beard
– doing hajj
– stop practicing polygamy
– They want you to compromise with Jihad
the most;
– Because they have their eyes on your
natural resources
– Then when they invade your country to
steal your oil;
– if you defend your property
– they call you terrorist
– They approached the prophet asking him
to worship Allah for one year:
– and their idols in the next
– When they came with this indecent
proposal
– Allah revealed Surah Al Kaafiroon
Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him) to these Mushrikun and Kafirun): “O Al-Kafirun (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)! I worship not that which you worship, “Nor will you worship that which I worship “And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping Nor will you worship that which I worship To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islamic Monotheism).” [Al Kafirun 109:1-6]
– this Surah is equivalent to a quarter of
the Quran
– people will always want you to
compromise in your deen
– already many Muslims have compromised in
the deen
– by falling into democracy
– This surah is also a declaration of war
– because we will never see eye to eye in
regards to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
– and our religion
– We say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is One
– and you say Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) has partners
– we say Allah does not have children
– you say that the angels are the
daughters of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
– The kuffaar are bullied
وَدَّ
كَثِيرٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يَرُدُّونَكُم مِّن بَعْدِ إِيمَانِكُمْ
كُفَّارًا حَسَدًا مِّنْ عِندِ أَنفُسِهِم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ
الْحَقُّ ۖ فَاعْفُوا وَاصْفَحُوا حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ ۗ إِنَّ
اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Many of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed, out of envy from their own selves, even, after the truth (that Muhammad Peace be upon him is Allah’s Messenger) has become manifest unto them. But forgive and overlook, till Allah brings His Command. Verily, Allah is Able to do all things. [Al Baqarah 2:109]
– if you don’t compromise on the deen they
will ban everything they can
– they are envious of your deen
– you think people only envy dunya, (fast
cars, money etc..)
– when the Jew sees you practicing your
deen
– he knows that is the religion he should
be following
– but Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) didn’t give him the tawfeeq to follow
Islam
– The reason why: Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said: 42:13
وَلَا
تَتَفَرَّقُوا فِيهِ ۚ كَبُرَ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَيْهِ ۚ
اللَّهُ يَجْتَبِي إِلَيْهِ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي إِلَيْهِ مَن يُنِيبُ
Intolerable for the Mushrikun , is that to which you (O Muhammad ﷺ) call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience [Ash Shura 42:13]
– they are addicted to every haram under
the heavens
– they themselves admit it with their own
mouths
– Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said: 79:10-12
They say: “Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? Even after we are crumbled bones?” They say: “It would in that case, be a return with loss!” [Al An Nazi’at 79: 10-12]
– The kuffaar are losers!
– because when they were in the dunya,
they were human devils
– we even cheated on our wives;
– not with other women, but even men!
– Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said: 17:75
ذًا لَّأَذَقْنَاكَ ضِعْفَ الْحَيَاةِ وَضِعْفَ الْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ عَلَيْنَا نَصِيرًا
In that case, We would have made you taste a double portion (of punishment) in this life and a double portion (of punishment) after death. And then you would have found none to help you against Us. [Al Isra 17:75]
– This ayah is a warning for Muhammad (ﷺ)
– this is not the first time Allah warned
Muhammad (ﷺ) in the Quran
– The Rasool (saws) didn’t hide any part
of the Qur’an from us
– And he didn’t change the Quran
– Aisha said: The most difficult thing for
the Prophet to implement was 33:37
– to marry the ex-wife of his adopted son
وَإِذْ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِي أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَتُخْفِي فِي نَفْسِكَ مَا اللَّهُ مُبْدِيهِ وَتَخْشَى النَّاسَ وَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخْشَاهُ ۖ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيْدٌ مِّنْهَا وَطَرًا زَوَّجْنَاكَهَا لِكَيْ لَا يَكُونَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَرَجٌ فِي أَزْوَاجِ أَدْعِيَائِهِمْ إِذَا قَضَوْا مِنْهُنَّ وَطَرًا ۚ وَكَانَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ مَفْعُولًا
And (remember) when you said to him (Zaid bin Harithah radhiallahu’anhu the freed slave of the Prophet ﷺ) on whom Allah has bestowed Grace (by guiding him to Islam) and you (O Muhammad ﷺ too) have done favour (by manumitting him) “Keep your wife to yourself, and fear Allah.” But you did hide in yourself (i.e. what Allah has already made known to you that He will give her to you in marriage) that which Allah will make manifest, you did fear the people (i.e., Muhammad SAW married the divorced wife of his manumitted slave) whereas Allah had a better right that you should fear Him. So when Zaid had accomplished his desire from her (i.e. divorced her), [Al Ahzab 33:37]
– his enemies would say that he was
getting married to his daughter in law
– this marriage to Zaynab Bint Jahsh
Another ayah in whom Allah warned Muhammad
(ﷺ)
39:65
وَلَقَدْ
أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ
عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad ﷺ), as it was to those (Allah’s Messengers) before you: “If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers." [Az Zumar 39:65]
– The shirk Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is talking about here is major shirk (to
worship false deities).
– the word losers here mean – dwellers of
the hell-fire.
Another ayah 2:120
وَلَن
تَرْضَىٰ عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ ۗ
قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللَّهِ هُوَ الْهُدَىٰ ۗ وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُم
بَعْدَ الَّذِي جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ ۙ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا
نَصِيرٍ
Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) till you follow their religion. Say: “Verily, the Guidance of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Quran), then you would have against Allah neither any Wali (protector or guardian) nor any helper. [Al Baqarah 2:120]
– If Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is warning Muhammad here,
– what makes you think that Mother Teresa
has a chance!
– This ayah is another warning to Muhammad
ﷺ;
– not to follow the evil and corrupted
desires of the people
– but to follow the Quran
وَإِن كَادُوا لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَإِذًا لَّا يَلْبَثُونَ خِلَافَكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Their purpose was to scare thee off the land, in order to expel thee; but in that case they would not have stayed (therein) after thee, except for a little while. [Al Isra 17:76] Yusuf Ali
– The kuffaar of the UK or USA provoke the
Muslims to leave
– the kuffaar will never change,
– whether they live in the time of the
prophet or now.
– Shaikh has told us: LEAVE THEIR
COUNTRIES: DO NOT PLANT BOMBS IN THEIR COUNTRIES
– they are human devils they will harass
you every day..
– the companions migrated to Ethiopia
– The land which is mentioned in this ayah
is Makkah
– Tafseer:
– Allah said, their aim and objective is
to scare you to leave their countries
– they don’t want you in their countries
– they will provoke you and scare you
every day
– Belmarsh prison is full with innocent
Muslims
– the kuffaar will never change
– their hearts are alike
– Allah told you in the Quran
– The kuffaar killed Sumaayah and her husband
Yaasir
– They were going to kill them one by one
for their belief
– The Boston bombers;
– their mother said the FBI picked on her sons for 4 years on a daily basis
– Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said they would indeed leave Makkah,
– as there would be war
– The caravan of Abu Sufyan;
Quraysh heard that the Muslims were going
to seize the caravan
– All the leaders came out of Makkah to go
and defend their caravan
– This was the cause of the Battle of Badr
– they brought extra camels, dancing girls
– they plotted and planned.
– but Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is the best of Planners
– Allah would send 1000 angels to fight alongside the Muslims
– Allah said: 8:9
إِذْ
تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّي مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلْفٍ مِّنَ
الْمَلَائِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ
When you (believers) begged for assistance from your Lord, He said, “I am helping you with a thousand angels, all in rows marching one after the other” [Al Anfal 8:9]
– You drove Muhammad out: Watch this
space.
– only after a year and a half
– they had to leave Makkah themselves to
be dispatched to the hell-fire
– at the battle of Badr
– the leaders of Makkah were killed
– the prophet said: When you go to the
battlefield look for the leaders and kill them
– Allah said: 9:12
وَإِن نَّكَثُوا أَيْمَانَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ عَهْدِهِمْ وَطَعَنُوا فِي دِينِكُمْ فَقَاتِلُوا أَئِمَّةَ الْكُفْرِ ۙ إِنَّهُمْ لَا أَيْمَانَ لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَنتَهُونَ
But if they violate their oaths after their covenant, and attack your religion with disapproval and criticism then fight (you) the leaders of disbelief (chiefs of Quraish – pagans of Makkah) [12] [Tawbah 9:12]
– When you take out the think tanks, the
foot soldiers become headless chickens
– this was the strategy that Muhammad (ﷺ) used.
Ayah 17:77
سُنَّةَ
مَن قَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَا ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ لِسُنَّتِنَا
تَحْوِيلًا
(This was Our) Sunnah (rule or way) with the Messengers We sent before you (O Muhammad ﷺ), and you will not find any alteration in Our Sunnah (rule or way, etc.). [77] [Al Isra 17:77]
– Waraqah ibn Nawfal said: Any time a man
brings a message like your message, his people turn against him and drive him
out.
– In Surah 35:43
اسْتِكْبَارًا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَكْرَ السَّيِّئِ ۚ وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ ۚ فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا سُنَّتَ الْأَوَّلِينَ ۚ فَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّتِ اللَّهِ تَبْدِيلًا ۖ وَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّتِ اللَّهِ تَحْوِيلًا
(They took to flight because of their) arrogance in the land and their plotting of evil. But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it. Then, can they expect anything (else), but the Sunnah (way of dealing) of the peoples of old? So no change will you find in Allah’s Sunnah (way of dealing), and no turning off will you find in Allah’s Sunnah (way of dealing). [Fatir 35:43]
– Allah told you: You will never find any
change in the Sunnah of Allah
– The battle between haqq and bautil
(truth and falsehood)
– The Sunnah of Allah is to use the
believers to punish the kuffaar on the battle field
– because of this David killed Goliath
Allah told you in Surah taubah 9:14
قَاتِلُوهُمْ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللَّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ وَيُخْزِهِمْ وَيَنصُرْكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍ مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people, [At Taubah 9:14]
– Fight them and Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) will punish them with your blessed hands,
and will use you to disgrace them
– give you victory over them, and heal the
breasts of the believers
– you see the plight of the Muslims;
– in the Muslim lands, Iraq, Kashmir,
Afghanistan
– If you don’t fight them, and disgrace
them;
– the Muslims will apostate;
– they will turn to Communism, Democracy
etc.
– Many believe in Democracy,
– it is the religion of the Shaitan
– It is imperative, and incumbent upon you to disgrace kufr
– Ayah 17:78
أَقِمِ
الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ ۖ
إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا
Perform AsSalat (Iqamat-as-Salat) from mid-day till the darkness of the night (i.e. the Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, and ‘Isha’ prayers), and recite the Quran in the early dawn (i.e. the morning prayer). Verily, the recitation of the Quran in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by the angels in charge of mankind of the day and the night). [Al Isrā 17:78]
– even the angels witness your recitation
of the Quran
– Every time you say “salah Allahu alayhi
wasalam”;
– Allah mentions you in a gathering better
than it.
– that gathering is the gathering of the
angels
– when you go to perform salatul jummah
– two angels stand at the door of the masjid
– writing the names of the people who
enter
– when the imam goes on the minbar,
– the angels close their books
– you still get barakah for performing
salatul jummah if you are late
– but not that special barakah
Ayah 17:79
وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَتَهَجَّدْ بِهِ نَافِلَةً لَّكَ عَسَىٰ أَن يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُودًا
And in some parts of the night (also) offer the Salat (prayer) with it (i.e. recite the Quran in the prayer), as an additional prayer (Tahajjud optional prayer Nawafil) for you (O Muhammad ﷺ). It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqaman Mahmuda (a station of praise and glory, i.e. the highest degree in Paradise!). [79] [Al Isra 17:79]
– tahajjud is when you sleep, then wake up
and pray
– qiyyam al layl is when you stay awake
and pray
– On the Day of Judgement;
– the Prophet (ﷺ)
has a noble and dignified station
– When all the other prophets will refuse
to intercede
– Muhammad ﷺ will come forward
– this is called the Great Intercession
The Great Intercession:
Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded that Abu Hurayra said, “Some meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah, and he lifted up the arm, which he used to like, and took one bite, then he said: I will be the leader of mankind on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why it will be so Allah will gather the first and the last in one place, and they will hear a voice calling out, and they will all be seen.
The sun will come close until their
anguish and distress become unbearable, and some will say to others, “Do you
not see how much you are suffering Why do you not find someone to intercede for
you with your Lord”
And some of the people will say to others,
“How about Adam” So they will go to Adam and say,
“O Adam, you are the father of mankind,
Allah created you with His Hand and breathed into you of His spirit, and
commanded the angels to prostrate to you.
Intercede for us with your Lord, do you
not see the state we are in, how bad it is” Adam will say, “My Lord is angry
today in a way that He has never been angry before and He will never be this
angry again.
He forbade me to approach the Tree and I
disobeyed Him. Myself, myself, myself i.e., I am only concerned about myself﴾. Go to someone else. Go to Nuh.”
So they will go to Nuh and say, “O Nuh,
you are the first of the Messengers sent to the people of earth, and Allah
called you a grateful servant. Intercede for us with your Lord, do you not see
the state we are in, how bad it is”
Nuh will say, “My Lord is angry today in a
way that He has never been angry before and He will never be this angry again.
There is a prayer that I prayed against my people. Myself, myself, myself ﴿i.e., I am
only concerned about myself﴾. Go to
someone else. Go to Ibrahim.
” So they will go to Ibrahim and say, “O
Ibrahim, you are the Prophet of Allah and His close Friend among the people of
earth. Intercede for us with your Lord, do you not see the state we are in, how
bad it is” Ibrahim will say, “My Lord is angry today in a way that He has never
been angry before and He will never be this angry again.” And he mentioned some
untruths he had told. “Myself, myself, myself ﴿i.e., I am only concerned about
myself﴾. Go to someone else. Go to Musa.” So they
will go to Musa and say, “O Musa, you are the Messenger of Allah, Allah chose
you above others by selecting you to convey His Message and by speaking to you
directly.
Intercede for us with your Lord, do you
not see the state we are in, how bad it is” Musa will say, “My Lord is angry
today in a way that He has never been angry before and He will never be this
angry again.
I killed a soul whom I had not been
commanded to kill. Myself, myself, myself ﴿i.e., I am only concerned about
myself﴾. Go to someone else. Go to `Isa.” So they
will go to `Isa and say
`O `Isa, you are the Messenger of Allah
and His Word which He bestowed upon Maryam and a spirit created by Him. You
spoke to the people as an infant in the cradle.
Intercede for us with your Lord, do you
not see the state we are in, how bad it is” `Isa will say, “My Lord is angry
today in a way that He has never been angry before and He will never be this
angry again.”
And he will not mention any sin. “Myself,
myself, myself (i.e., I am only concerned about myself) Go to someone
else.
Go to Muhammad.” So they will go to
Muhammad and will say, “O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of Allah and the Last
of the Prophets, Allah forgave all your past and future sins.
Intercede for us with your Lord, do you
not see the state we are in, how bad it is” I will stand up and come before the
Throne, and will fall prostrating to my Lord, may He be glorified and exalted.
Then Allah will inspire me to speak and I
will speak beautiful words of praise such as no one has ever been inspired with
before. It will be said, “O Muhammad, raise your head and ask, it will be
granted to you.
Intercede, and your intercession will be
heard.” So I will raise my head and say, “My Ummah, O Lord, my Ummah, O Lord,
my Ummah, O Lord.” It will be said,
“O Muhammad, admit those who will not be
brought to account from among your Ummah through the right-hand gate of
Paradise. Then the rest of your Ummah will share the other gates with the rest
of the people.”)
Then he said, (“By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the distance between two of the gateposts of Paradise is like the distance between Makkah and Hajar, or between Makkah and Busra.) It was also reported in the Two Sahihs. (Reported in Tafsir ibn Kathir, Volume 6, Surah 17, p.66-69)
– Ibrahim was khaleel Allah, the friend of
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)
– He was given that title because Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) Loved him so much
– The three lies of Ibrahim:
Abu Hurayra (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Ibrahim never lied in anything except on three occasions : When he said, “I am sick” though he was not sick, and when he said about Sarah, “She is my sister,” and when he said, “Rather, the biggest of them has done it.”[Tirmidhi 3177, Ahmed 9252, Bukhari 2217, Muslim 2371, Abu Dawud 2212]
– How do you gain the Intercession of Muhammad?
– After hearing the Adhaan, you recite the
dua;
–After hearing the adhan (prayer call), we say;
“Allahumma Rabba hathihid-Daawatit tammah,
wassalatil Qa imah ati
Muhammadan al waseelata wal fadeelah, wa ib’ath-hu maqaman mahmoodan allathee wa’ad-tah, innaka laa tukhliful-me’aad.”
And it means:
“O Allah, Owner of this perfect call and Owner of this prayer to be performed, bestow upon Muhammad al waseelah (a station in Paradise) and al fadeelah (a rank above the rest of creation) and send him upon a raised platform which you have promised him. Verily, You never fail in Your Promise.”
– Ayah 17:80
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَل لِّي مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَانًا نَّصِيرًا
And say (O Muhammad ﷺ): My Lord! Let my entry (to the city of Al-Madinah) be good, and likewise my exit (from the city of Makkah) be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me (or a firm sign or a proof). [Al Isra 17:80]
– It was the plot of Abu Jahl;
– to scatter the blood of Muhammad among 7
tribes
– They plot but Allah is the Best of
Planners
– He recited surah yaa-seen and left un
noticed
– His exit of Makkah was good
– And his entry to Madinah was a good one.
– They sang for him:
طلع البدر علينا - #مسلسل_عمر - طلع البدرعلينا - الأنشودة الكاملة
Nasheed: The White
Moon Rose Over Us ᴴᴰ (Tala’ al Badru ‘Alayna)
The Prophet (ﷺ) looked back at
Makkah
