Tafseer Al Quran Surah 49. Al Hujjurat (Part 7 END) [notes]

DARS SEVEN

30 September 2013 / 24 Dhul-Qadah 1434

AYAH 16:

Say: "Will you inform Allah about your religion? While Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allah is All-Aware of everything. (Al-Hujurat 49:16)

Looking at this ayah, you will know that Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is refuting some people and this is the Mu’tazilite and the bidattee (the people of bid'aa).

A mu'tazilite uses his aql and a bidatee innovates in the deen.

The first mu'tazilite in history was Iblis and he gave his reason for rebelling.

(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." (Al-A'raf 7:12)

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." (Al-Hijr 15:33)

When you use your Aql you fall into the category of those that veto the rule of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) because you are seeking to teach Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) His Deen.

So now you see people using their Aql to veto the laws of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) and you have people from all works of life deciding on what laws to govern the people with.

These are behaving like the Jews because they are claiming that what they come up with in the constitution is better than Allah’s (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) revealed laws.

The other set of people are the bidattee so who is a biddatee and what is bid'aa.

Bid'aa is to add a newly invented matter to the deen of Islam which is not from it.

Irbad ibn Sariyah (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger () delivered a sermon to them one day after the Salah of Fajr: an eloquent admonition that brought tears to the eyes and fear to the heart. A man submitted, ‘This is the advice of one taking leave. What do you advice us, O Messenger of Allah ()?” He said, “I instruct you to observe Taqwa, to listen and to obey even if a black slave (rules you). Those of you who survive will see many discords. Beware; refrain from innovations in religion, for that is error. So, he of you who encounters that must adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs. All of you should hold that firmly with your teeth.” [Tirmidhi 2685, Ahmed 17145, Abu Dawud 4607, Ibn Majah 42]

On the authority of Abu Najeeh al-’Irbaad ibn Saariyah (RA) who said: The Messenger of Allah () gave us a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes. So we said, "O Messenger of Allah! It is as though this is a farewell sermon, so counsel us." He () said, "I counsel you to have taqwa (fear) of Allah, and to listen and obey [your leader], even if a slave were to become your ameer. Verily he among you who lives long will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen (the rightly guided caliphs), those who guide to the right way. Cling to it stubbornly [literally: with your molar teeth]. Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for verily every bidah (innovation) is misguidance."

[It was related by Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, who said that it was a good and sound hadith.]

On the authority of Aisha (RA): The Messenger of Allah () said: "He who innovates something in this matter of ours that is not of it will have it rejected." [Al-Bukhari (2697) and Muslim (171]

Abu Hazim added: An-Nu'man bin Abi 'Aiyash, on hearing me, said. "Did you hear this from Sahl?" I said, "Yes." He said, " I bear witness that I heard Abu Said Al-Khudri saying the same, adding that the Prophet said: 'I will say: They are of me (i.e. my followers). It will be said, 'You do not know what they innovated (new things) in the religion after you left'. I will say, 'Far removed, far removed (from mercy), those who changed (their religion) after me." [Sahih Bukhari (8/120) No. 6584]

There are various types of bidaa.

Bidaa can be in regard to Aqeeda, Fiqh or Manhaj (methodology on how to establish the Islamic state)

The worst amongst them all is bidaa with regards to Aqeeda because Abu Hanifa said that the Greatest Fiqh is Aqeeda.

Fiqh Al Akbar Click me

You are not allowed to take your deen from anyone except if he is a Salafi Jihadi.

This is the Aqeeda of Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Kathir.

Therefore, you can't take it from a Saudi Salafi, Goofy Soofy, Shady Shiite, etc.

The worst bidaa is bidaa with regards to Aqeeda.

BID’AA IN REGARD TO AQEEDA

One day a man came to Hassan Al Basri and said that he saw people who make takfir on people who commit sins (khawaarij) and others who gave them complete hope (Murji); the man asked who was right and who was wrong.

Before Hassan Al Basri could answer, Waasil Ibn Ataa jumped and said they are neither here nor there but in the fence.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) made us in three categories: Muslim, kaafir and Munafiq. There is nothing in between.

But this man brought about a third category and said you are on the fence and this is bidaa in Aqeeda.

He was kicked out of the study circle because hypocrisy is contagious just like the AIDS virus.

This is the mu'tazilite, but what about the Saudi Salafis? Their aqeeda is dangerous and they are a cancer in the body of the Ummah today.

And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers. [AL Ma’idah 5:44] Sahih International

And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, such are the Kafirun (i.e. disbelievers - of a lesser degree as they do not act on Allah's Laws). (Al-Ma'idah 5:44) Muhsin Khan

The Saudi Salafis also came with another category (kaafir of a lesser degree) and they put a spin in the translation of the ayah (5:44) - Muhsin Khan Translation.

You can't tell a kaafir that he is a kaafir but not to worry because he is a kaafir of a lesser degree.

You only have one of three spiritual statuses: Muslims, kaafir or Munafiq.

So, the Pope and Salman Rushdie are kaafirs.

Abu Muhammad Al Maqdisi (RA) is a Muslim.

So, you can't say anyone is on the fence or a kaafir of a lesser degree; this is ridiculous.

A faasiq (sinful Muslim) is a Muslim likewise a deviant is a Muslim.

So, no matter how many labels you come up with, they will have to fall under one of these categories.

The Muwahhid (a person upon authentic Tauheed) is a Muslim.

Another bidaa in Aqeeda that the Saudi Salafis have is that you can only condemn and make takfir on someone who commits major kufr if he legitimises his kufr or else you can't.

If we catch you bowing to idols or spying against the mujahideen for the kufaar, you are a kaafir and we don't ask you what you think you were doing.

This condition they put on major kufr is only applicable in the case of minor kufr.

So, if a man commits ZINA or drinks ALCOHOL, he is not a kaafir.

We only make takfir on him when he legitimised the kufr and makes it halal.

This bidaa in Aqeeda is the worst form of bidaa.

Another example of bidaa is the bidaa of the Goofy Sufi; they believe that Allah is everywhere.

Abu Haneefah (RA) used to make takfir on people who believe Allah is everywhere.

Abu Haneefah (rh) said, when asked of his opinion of the one who says, ‘I do not know whether Allah is above the heavens or on the earth.’ - “He has disbelieved, because Allah says, “The Most Merciful rose above the Throne,” and His Throne is above His seven heavens.’ He was then asked, ‘what if he said that Allah is above His Throne but he does not know whether the Throne is in the heavens or on the earth?’ He said, ‘He has disbelieved, because He has denied that He is above the heavens, And whosoever denied that He is above the heavens has disbelieved.” (‘Sharh Usul I'tiqaad Ahlus Sunnah’ of al-Laalikaaee (d.414AH), ‘al-Uluww’ of adh- Dhahabee, also ‘Sharh Aqueedah at-Tahaawiyyah’ of ibn Abee al-Izz al-Hanafee)

The Most Beneficent (Allah) Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). (Ta-Ha 20:5)

Another bidaa is the bidaa of wahdatul wujood (union) meaning a man can become so pious until he becomes Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) and after that he neither prays no does anything else.

This is the big secret of those who believe that ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is everywhere and also believe in wahdatul wujood (the Sufis): if they believe that Allah is above the Arsh then their union cannot take place.

This was introduced by Ibn Arabi (the Sufi of Spain) and the Tablighi Jamaat always praise him.

Aisha narrated the Messenger of Allah () said: "Those who give respect to a bid'ati (innovator in Religion) surely will be counted as a helper of destroying Islam." [al-Tabarani in 'al-Mu’jam al-Awsat' (7/35) No. 6772 and al-Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Emaan' (12/57) No. 9018]

The prophet said that anyone who gives respect to a person of bidaa has helped to destroy Islam in the above-mentioned hadith, so how can the tablighi jamaat praise him?

BID'AA WITH REGARDS TO FIQH

‘No jihad without a caliph’ - this is a bidaa in regard to Fiqh.

When a person is a Munafiq he always puts conditions in Islam that don’t exist.

In the year 1260 C.E the Muslims fought a battle against the Tartars and defeated them.

This battle (the battle of Ain Jaloot) was fought with no caliph.

The caliph (Musta'sim) was killed two years before that in 1258 C.E.

He had a Shiite as an adviser who was a double agent spying for the tartars whilst he was advising the caliph.

They killed the caliph and destroyed all the Islamic books that were in Baghdad.

The Muslims fought them and defeated them, so we wonder where they got their dodgy ideology from.

Bin Baaz called for jihad and said it was fard ul ayn to fight against the USSR; this was in 1979 and there was no caliph then.

IBN BAAZ’S FATWA IN SUPPORT OF THE WAR AGAINST THE SOVIETS: Click

A Munafiq will always put dodgy conditions on jihad.

Another bid'aa is 'no jihad until you are firmly grounded in knowledge'.

So asked these people who say that, about the man who took his shahahdah and died the same day on the battlefield and the Rasul said that his action was small, but his reward is great.

After he conquered Makkah, almost immediately after he took the tulaqaa (the new Muslims from Makkah) to the battle of hunain and didn't tell them to seek knowledge first.

If you hear the adhaan of the shiites you will be shocked.

They will say Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah Ash-hadu anna Muhammadar-rasūl ullāh Ash-hadu anna Ali un-wali Allah’.

This last part is bidaa.

Therefore, some think Islam is too harsh and so they reduce from Islam.

Others think Islam is incomplete, so they add to it.

Others are cowards so they put dodgy conditions on jihad.

The shiites don't wash their feet in wudhu.

They just damp their hands and wipe over the naked skin, so it is easy to tell if a person is a Shia because they are not allowed do taqiyyah (deception) with regards to wudhu.

On the authority of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (RA) who said: The Prophet (SAW) stayed behind us on a journey and then caught up with us, and we were late in praying ‘Asr. We started doing wudoo’ and wiping out feet (not washing them properly), and he called out at the top of his voice: “Save your heels from the fire” two or three times. [Al-Bukhari (163) and Muslim (241)]

If the Rasul () told the man who had a dry spot the size of a coin on his feet to save his feet from the fire, this means the shiites have their feet in hell.

Another bid'aa in regard to fiqh is to wipe your face after making duas this is rife among the Goofy Sufis.

They are all jaahil and can't give you the hadith to back up their claim.

Another bidaa is khatam (death anniversary).

This is business in many places in Africa and hence they are not speaking against it.

Another bid’aa is to recite the Quran in the graveyard over the dead; there is no evidence for this practice.

Another bid’aa is making a dua after single Fard salah

If you do it sometimes and leave it off at other times it is ok, but otherwise you give the impression that the dua is a part of the salah.

I was forced to do this practice in my South African tour, when I was appointed the imam of a Masjid; this practice is rife in the African and Indo-Pak community.

Shaking hands with the person besides you after every salah is also bidaa.

I can go on and give 100 examples of bidaa.

BID’AA IN REGARD TO MANHAJ

You should call the people to Tauheed and not to Shariah first; they don't even know who Allah is.

The rasul () told Muadh (RA) to call the people of Yemen to Tauheed before shariah.

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet sent Muadh to Yemen, he said to him, "You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allah. If they learn that, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers to be offered in one day and one night. And if they pray, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them Zakat of their properties and it is to be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor. And if they agree to that, then take from them Zakat but avoid the best property of the people." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 93, Hadith 469]

When the people embraced Islam, the Verses regarding legal and illegal things were revealed. If the first thing to be revealed was: 'Do not drink alcoholic drinks.' people would have said, 'We will never leave alcoholic drinks,' and if there had been revealed, 'Do not commit illegal sexual intercourse, 'they would have said, 'We will never give up illegal sexual intercourse.' [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 6, Book 61, Hadith 515]

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) revealed the Surahs about Tauheed in Makkah and Surahs about Fiqh in Medinah.

Another bid’aa in regard to manhaj is to use democracy to establish the Shariah.

This is the Aqeeda of the Muslims brotherhood in Egypt, and they are being disgraced and have been banned from politics.

WHY SAUDI ARABIA LOVES THE EGYPTIAN MILITARY: Click

The way forward is not the ballot, but it is the bullet. Democracy is the greatest shirk.

Another bid’aa is to replace jihad with dawah. This is the Manhaj of the Tablighi Jamaat and they say when Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said to strive in His path, it means to give dawah. They put a spin on the ayah.

The scholars split right down the middle as to whether there is anything such as a good bid’ah.

The Saudis say there is no good bid'ah and those from Azhar say that there is good bid'ah. They give the incident of Umar (r.a) collecting the people to pray 20 rakahs of taraweeh in congregation.

The counter argument is that taraweh is not a bid'ah.

'Abdur Rahman bin 'Abdul Qari said, "I went out in the company of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found the people praying in different groups. A man praying alone or a man praying with a little group behind him. So, 'Umar said, 'In my opinion I would better collect these (people) under the leadership of one Qari (Reciter) (i.e. let them pray in congregation!)'. So, he made up his mind to congregate them behind Ubai bin Ka'b. Then on another night I went again in his company and the people were praying behind their reciter. On that, 'Umar remarked, 'What an excellent Bid'a (i.e. innovation in religion) this is; but the prayer which they do not perform but sleep at its time is better than the one they are offering.' He meant the prayer in the last part of the night. (In those days) people used to pray in the early part of the night." [Sahih Bukhari (3/45) No. 2010]

Umar only organised the salah to avoid chaos and confusion and we don't call this bid'ah but we call it maslaha (public interest).

Another example of this is when Abu Bakr (RA) compiled the Quran in book form.

Another example is when Uthman (RA) introduced a second adhan on Jumuah day.

AYAH 17:

They regard as favour upon you (O Muhammad ) that they have embraced Islām. Say: "Count not your Islām as a favour upon me. Nay, but Allāh has conferred a favour upon you, that He has guided you to the Faith, if you indeed are true. (Al-Hujurat 49:17)

Some people think that they are doing a favour by accepting Islam, but Allah is telling them in the ayah that He did a favour to them by guiding them to Islam.

AYAH 18:

Verily, Allāh knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh is the All-Seer of what you do.(Al-Hujurat 49:18)
