Tafsir Al Qur'an Surah Muddaththir [Ayat 1 to 7] Part 1 [Notes]

  بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

TAFSEER

SURAH MUDDATHTHIR

(THE MESSAGE OF MUHAMMAD IS UNIVERSAL)

Nov 21, 2013 / 18 Muharram 1435 Hijri

DARS ONE

AYAH 1

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ

O you (Muhammad ) enveloped (in garments)! (Al-Muddaththir 74:1)

It was revealed in Makkah and the scholars of Islam did not disagree about the location of revelation even though we have Surahs with dual location.

The first revelation that was revealed to the prophet Muhammad () was Surah Alaq

This happened while he was in the CAVE HIRA contemplating and the Angel asked him to read and he said he cant read three times; then the Angel squeezed him and said to him:

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said in Quran surah Al Alaq verse 1 to 5

Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists) (1), Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). (2) Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, (3) Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)] (4), Has taught man that which he knew not. (5) (Al-'Alaq 96:1-5)

The Prophet () got terrified of this encounter, so he went home shaking

Khadijah said to Waraqa, "Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!" Waraqa asked, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" Allah's Apostle described whatever he had seen.

Khadijah said to Waraqa, "Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!" Waraqa asked, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" Allah's Apostle described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, "This is the same one who keeps the secrets (Angel Gabriel) whom Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out." Allah's Apostle asked, "Will they drive me out?" Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said, "Anyone (man) who came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly."[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith 003]

His wife Khadija (r.a) took him to her cousin Waraqa and narrated to him what happened to the Prophet (); So the Prophet () became a Nabi after these five Ayats were revealed to him in Surah Alaq

He was not a messenger yet

Abdullah bin 'Adi bin Al-Hamra reported that he heard Allah's Messenge () saying, "By Allah ! You (O Makkah) are the best of Allah' s land, and most beloved to Him. Had I not been driven away from you, I would have never departed (from you)." (recorded by At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, An-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah; At-Tirmidhi said, "Hasan Sahih')

The angel came to the Prophet on the night of power (lailatul Qadr) and the majority of scholars agree it is the 27th of Ramadan.

One day the Prophet () was working, and he saw the same Angel appear to him on the horizon sitting on a chair.

So, he got scared and went home and said to his wife cover me, cover me after he ran home and said cover me, cover me, Allah revealed the Ayats in Surah Muddaththir.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: I heard the Prophet () describing the period of pause of the Divine Inspiration. He said in his talk, "While I was walking, I heard voices from the sky. I looked up, and behold ! I saw the same Angel who came to me in the cave of Hira' sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I was too much afraid of him (so I returned to my house) and said, 'Fold me up in garments!' They wrapped me up. Then Allah revealed: 'O you wrapped...and desert the idols before the prayer became compulsory.' Rujz means idols. [Al-Bukhari (4925) and Muslim (161)]

When Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ revealed this Surah, then he became a messenger of Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)

We use the words prophet and messenger interchangeably, but they are not the same Prophet Yunus was a prophet not a messenger and so was prophet Yusuf (AS)

-So, what is the difference between the two terms?

1. A messenger has a shariah, a book but a Prophet does not have a shariah or book

When prophet Yusuf (AS) went to Egypt, he had to follow the shariah of Abraham (AS). The Prophet follows the shariah he found

This point I have just made, some scholars of Aqeeda don't accept it.

Their argument is Prophet Adam (AS) had a shariah and his shariah said Cain must hand over his twin sister to Abel and vice versa; so, Adam had a shariah and if he did not have shariah, his life would have been chaos

He also had shariah in heaven; to eat and enjoy but not to eat from the haram tree

I asked my shaikhs why the tree was haram; they said eating from the tree makes you defecate, and you can't do this in heaven, so he had to be flung from heaven to do this

AYAH 2

قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ

Arise and warn! (Al-Muddaththir 74:2)

When Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said arise and warn, this is not just for Arabs, it means the whole of mankind and the evidence is:

In Surah Al Anbiya verse 107

And We have sent you (O Muhammad ) not but as a mercy for the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Al-Anbiya 21:107)

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah () said: I have been given superiority over the other prophets in six respects: I have been given words which are concise but comprehensive in meaning; I have been helped by terror (in the hearts of enemies): spoils have been made lawful to me: the earth has been made for me clean and a place of worship; I have been sent to all mankind and the line of prophets is closed with me. [Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith 1062]

You can pray anywhere except in six places; Toilet, Grave, where animals are Tied, Garbage, Street where people walk, and on top of the Ka'ba

Arise and warn (meaning man and jinn)

Say (O Muhammad ): "It has been revealed to me that a group (from three to ten in number) of jinns[] listened (to this Qur'ân). They said: 'Verily! We have heard a wonderful Recital (this Qur'ân)!  'It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allâh). (Al-Jinn 72:1-2)

Some Jinn came from Basra (Iraq), the jinn where more responsive than mankind

The jinn will enter to the paradise like us

The virgins of paradise, no Jinn or human being had sex with them

In the Quran surah Al Rahman verse 56

Wherein both will be those (maidens) restraining their glances upon their husbands, whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna (has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse) before them. (Ar-Rahman 55:56)

The virgins of paradise don't look at anyone except their husband, women of dunya look at other men, even commit zina with another man

The Huriya only wants their husbands, 80% of the women in Darul Harb have committed Zina.

AYAH 3

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

And your Lord (Allah) magnify! (Al-Muddaththir 74:3)

Subhan Allah wal Hamdulillah wa la Ilaha Il Allah Wa Allahu Akbar, to magnify your Lord.

To single out your Lord for Ibada, do Dhikhr, establish the Salah, thank your Lord for the many blessings He has bestowed upon you.

To describe your Lord with His 99 names and attributes and to abstain from describing your Lord, with names He did NOT uses to describe Himself.

Christians accuse Him of having an affair, suicide, Jews accuse Him of being poor and they are rich.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said in the Quran Surah Al An'am verse 101

He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth. How can He have children when He has no wife? He created all things, and He is the All-Knower of everything. (Al-An'am 6:101)

Only Muslims can magnify their Lord and only Muslims have the right Aqeeda.

Indeed, Allah has heard the statement of those (Jews) who say: "Truly, Allah is poor and we are rich!" We shall record what they have said and their killing of the Prophets unjustly, and We shall say: "Taste you the torment of the burning (Fire)." (Aali Imran 3:181)

And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (Genesis 6:6) King James Version

The Jews say: "Allah's Hand is tied up (i.e. He does not give and spend of His Bounty)." Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for what they uttered. Nay, both His Hands are widely outstretched. He spends (of His Bounty) as He wills. Verily, the Revelation that has come to you from Allah increases in most of them their obstinate rebellion and disbelief. We have put enmity and hatred amongst them till the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindled the fire of war, Allah extinguished it; and they (ever) strive to make mischief on earth. And Allah does not like the Mufsidun (mischiefmakers). (Al-Ma'idah 5:64)

God rested on the 7th day and was refresh

It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. (Exodus 31:17) [King James Version]

Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ said in the Quran Surah Al imran verse: 110

You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah - and rebellious against Allah's Command). (Al Imran 3:110)

Every Kafir commits the crime of blasphemy and to insult Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)

AYAH 4

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

And your garments purify! (Al-Muddaththir 74:4)

You are not allowed to wear clothing which is stolen; it has to be from halal earnings

Then he () mentioned [the case] of a man who, having journeyed far, is dishevelled and dusty, and who spreads out his hands to the sky saying "O Lord! O Lord!" while his food is haram (unlawful), his drink is haram, his clothing is haram, and he has been nourished with haram, so how can [his supplication] be answered? {Narrated by Muslim.}

Material that you are wearing has to be pure, if you perform Salah with leather made from pig skin, your Salah is bautil (invalid) because you prayed with Najasah on you

Every leather is halal except dog and pig (Madhab of imam shafi) which is correct

If you pray with urine droppings or defecation on it, your salah is invalid

If the garment is not pure you are wasting your time

Magnify Your Lord, your garments purify

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: The Prophet () once passed by two graves, and those two persons (in the graves) were being tortured. He said, "They are being tortured not for a great thing (to avoid). One of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other was going about with calumnies (to make enmity between friends). He then took a green leaf of a date-palm tree split it into two pieces and fixed one on each grave. The people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Why have you done so?" He replied, "I hope that their punishment may be lessened till they (the leaf) become dry." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 23, Hadith 443]

Namimah = tale bearing to carry news for people to split up (gossip)

It is reported from Hudhaifa that news reached him (the Holy Prophet) that a certain man carried tales. Upon this Hudhaifa remarked: I heard Allah's Messenger () saying: "The tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise." [Al-Bukhari (6056) and Muslim (189)]

People use Pal talk and face book to gossip and assassinate characters of people

There are three spies operating one face book, to entrap people (1 in UK 2 in USA) Face book (fitna book)

One opened a room called "Jama vs Munafiqeen" other two are females

Nusayba McDonald is her name the other spy "veil Knight"

Do not befriend these people on face book, and don't talk to them

Many have been sent to prison for many years because they were not wise

CONDITIONS FOR YOUR CLOTHING TO BE USED FOR SAAH

1- Your clothing should not be stolen.

2- Clothing should be Halal material i.e. leather made from pig skin

3- You are not allowed to pray in filthy clothing, with urine or defecation

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri narrated: Whilst the Prophet () was leading his companions in prayer, he took off his shoes and placed them to his left. When the people saw that, they took off their shoes. When the Messenger of Allah had finished the prayer he said, “What made you take off your shoes?” They said, “We saw you take off your shoes, so we took off our shoes.” The Messenger of Allah () said: “Jibreel (AS) came to me and told me that there was some dirt on them.” And he said: “When one of you comes to the mosque, let him check his shoes, and if he seeds any dirt on them, let him wipe them and pray in them.” [Sunan Abu Dawud (1/175) No. 650 and Musnad Ahmad (3/92) No. 11895]

Mud is allowed; because mud is pure (we are created from black mud/Hama)

If your trouser has mud on it because you were in the field, you can pray with it

Don't come near to false deities/idols; we have idol worshippers in the Ummah today: Sufis Shias Barelvis.

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. (Al-Hijr 15:26) Sahih International

AYAH 5

وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ

And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! (Al-Muddaththir 74:5)

The Prophet () did not worship idols not even as a teenager, when he became Prophet, he was not tainted with idol worship.

When he became a Prophet, he wasn't tainted with idol worship, drinking alcohol, zina

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) purified his heart, sent angel Jib reel to wash his heart.

Have We not opened your breast for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))? And removed from you your burden, which weighed down your back? And raised high your fame? (Ash-Sharh 94:1-4)

Muhammad () was saved from idols because Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) purified his heart

You don't say "Asalamu Alaika" in your Tashahud, which is grave worship

Narrated Ibn Mas'ud  Allah's Apostle taught me the Tashah-hud as he taught me a Sura from the Quran, while my hand was between his hands. (Tashah-hud was) all the best compliments and the prayers and the good things are for Allah. Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be on you, O Prophet! Peace be on us and on the pious slaves of Allah, I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I also testify that Muhammad is Allah's slave and His Apostle. (We used to recite this in the prayer) during the lifetime of the Prophet, but when he had died, we used to say, "Peace be on the Prophet."  (Bukhari -Volume 8, Book 74, Number 281)

"Asalam ala Nabee, warahmatullahi wabarakatu" is proper tahashud (as-salam alan nabi wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu)

Albani recommended to say "as salamu alayka" and wag their finger during tahashud the way dog wags its tail; these are the only two mistakes in his book

The Prophet () did not wag his finger

Shaikh Bin Baz only made One mistake: to allow American troops in the holy land (only mistake in his lifetime)

The drones that killed Anwar Awlaki came from Saudi Arabia, it used as a base to kill innocents Muslims

AYAH 6

وَلَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ

And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). (Al-Muddaththir 74:6)

Don't give a gift in order to have more not every gift is innocent if you are a Qadi (judge) and they invite you to their home, the food is bribery a judge cannot accept gifts

Ibn Mas'ud was asked (by the people of Iraq), What is rashwa (taking bribes)? He replied, "This is suht (unlawful earning)." They said, "No, we meant in ruling." He then said, "This is the very kufr." Then he recited: " And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, such are the Kafirun." (Al-Ma'idah 5:44) [Tafsir al-Tabari (10/321) No. 11960, Tafsir Ibn Kathir (3/119)]

The judge who takes bribery to chop off hands/heads of wrong people is committing Major Kufr

When George Bush was campaigning against Al Gore, a lot of people donated to Bush, who made weapons; donators were manufacturer of weapons

When Bush won the election, they told him to pay it back, by buying their weapons

They earned 50 million by 1 million (donating to Bush campaign). Their donations were investments, not gifts,

Bush spent all the money in federal reserves on wars, those people were war mongers, people who do business in war not every gift is innocent

Don't give a gift with the intention to receive more

In the same Ayah, do not do good deeds, obedience to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ), with the mentality that by you doing good deeds you are doing a favour to Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)

O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all as wicked as the most wicked heart of any individual amongst you, then this would not decrease My Kingdom an iota. O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all to stand together in one place and ask of Me, and I were to give everyone what he requested, then that would not decrease what I Possess, except what is decreased of the ocean when a needle is dipped into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I account for you, and then recompense you for. So he who finds good, let him praise Allah, and he who finds other than that, let him blame no one but himself. [Sahih Muslim (4/1994) No. 2577]

When you become pious, you are doing yourself a favour, and when you commit sin you are doing yourself a disfavour.

AYAH 7

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ

And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah). (Al-Muddaththir 74:7)

Sabr means you do what is Fard, even though it is difficult for you like a thing; but abstain because it is haram

-Sabr means you abstain from a thing because it is haram

Narrated by Abu Qatadah and Abu Ad-Dahma' who said: We came to a man from the people of the desert and asked him: Did you hear a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah ()? He said: I heard him saying: "Whosoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, then Allah the Mighty and Magnificent, will replace it with something better than it." [Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, pg.363, No. 23124]

Sabr means you do not insult Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) whenever a calamity befalls you.

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." (Al-Baqarah 2:155-156)

Inna Lillahi wa Ilaihi Raji'oon (recited when calamity befalls you)

In India whenever a farmer borrows to plant crops, and rain does not fall, they commit suicide.

A Hindu cannot cope with calamity (worships a cow)

And seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer) and truly it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khashi'un [i.e. the true believers in Allah - those who obey Allah with full submission, fear much from His Punishment, and believe in His Promise (Paradise, etc.) and in His Warnings (Hell, etc.)]. (Al-Baqarah 2:45)

Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). (Al-Baqarah 2:153)

The knowledge of Jihad is Fard al Ayn

Since 2001, one Indian farmer has committed suicide every half hour : http://thediplomat.com/2013/07/why-do-so-many-indian-farmers-commit-suicide/

Kuffar commit suicide whenever a calamity strikes, they have no Sabr

Suhayb Ibn Sinan narrated the Messenger of Allah () said: “Wonderful are the affairs of a believer; for there is good in every affair of his; this is not the case with anyone else except a believer. If he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allah), thus there is good for him in it. If he suffers affliction, he endures patiently, which is good for him. [Sahih Muslim (4/2295) No. 2999]

If good comes Shakara, he is thankful, if bad comes Sabar he is patient

When you speak the truth, you will be persecuted

By Al-'Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss, Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf)which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.) (Al-'Asr 103:1-3)

So, you need Sabr in order to not to apostate from Islam because when you speak the truth you will be persecuted; patience is a bitter cup only the strong can drink from it.

There are two Hizb in the world, Hizbullah and Hizbushaitan; the battle between Hizbullah and Hizbushaitan is a never-ending battle.

Because of this Jihad is compulsory on you until the Day of Judgement.

On the authority of Jabir the Messenger of Allah () said: "... Jihad is compulsory on you until Judgment Day..." [Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat al-Tabarani (5/95) No. 4775 and Abu Naeem al-Asbahani in 'Hilyatul Awliya' (3/73)]

And whosoever takes Allah, His Messenger, and those who have believed, as Protectors, then the party of Allah will be the victorious. (Al-Ma'idah 5:56)

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah () said: One who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or determination) for Jihad died the death of a hypocrite. [Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Chapter 47 Hadith 4696]

Shaitan (Satan) has overtaken them. So, he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Shaitan (Satan). Verily, it is the party of Shaitan (Satan) that will be the losers! (Al-Mujadilah 58:19)

If you do not practice Dhikhr, you do not remember Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ)

Ibn 'Umar (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah () said, "Good will remain (as a permanent quality) in the foreheads of horses (for Jihad) till the Day of Resurrection." [Al-Bukhari (2849) and Muslim (1871)]

Imraan ibn Hussain (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah () said, ‘A group of people from my Ummah will continue to fight for the sake of the truth until the last of them fights the Dajjal (anti-Christ) [Sunan Abu Dawud (3/4) No. 2484, Musnad Ahmad (4/437) No. 19934, Mustadrak al-Haakim (2/81) No. 2392]

Narrated By Muawiya: I heard the Prophet () saying, "A group of people amongst my followers will remain obedient to Allah's orders and they will not be harmed by anyone who will not help them or who will oppose them, till Allah's Order (the Last Day) comes upon them while they are still on the right path." [Sahih Bukhari (4/207) No. 3641]

It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir b. Samura that the Holy Prophet () said: This religion will continue to exist, and a group of people from the Muslims will continue to fight for its protection until the Hour is established. [Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Hadith #4717]
