THE 7 GATES OF HELLFIRE
1. JAHANNUM
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about it in Surah 9:81 that is first HELL
Those who stayed away (from Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allah; they hated to strive and fight with their properties and their lives in the Cause of Allah, and they said: "March not forth in the heat." Say: "The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat", if only they could understand! (At-Tawbah 9:81)
If a person enters Jahannum he can come out with intercession of the Rasul (ﷺ) and so when they all go out part will go out
So, when Ibn Taymiyyah said this, he meant just a part of hell and not all of it.
2. LADHAA
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about this in 70:15-16
By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! (Al-Ma'arij 70:15-16)
3. SAQAR
I will cast him into Hellfire And what will make you know exactly what Hellfire is? It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! Burning the skins Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). (Al-Muddaththir 74:26-30)
4. HUTAMA
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about this in surah Al Humuzah in Ayah 4 to 9:
Nay! Verily, he will be thrown into the crushing Fire. And what will make you know what the crushing Fire is? The fire of Allah, kindled, which leaps up over the hearts,) Verily, it shall be closed in on them,) In pillars stretched forth, (i.e. they will be punished in the Fire with pillars, etc.). (Al-Humuzah 104:4-9)
5. JAHEEM
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about this in Surah An Nazi'at in Ayah 37 to 41:
Then, for him who Tagha (transgressed all bounds, in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allah). And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts), Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire; But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts. Verily, Paradise will be his abode. (An-Nazi'at 79:37-41)
Because he restrained from his evil desire then he will enter in Jannah (Paradise)
6. SA'EER
Allah ((سبحانه وتعالىٰ)) spoke about this in surah Al Mulk Ayah 10 to 11:
And they will say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!" Then they will confess their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire. (Al-Mulk 67:10-11)
If only Mankind has used their AQL (intelligence), they would not end up in ALL SA'EER
SA'EER is translated as the BLAZING FIRE
7. AL HAWIYAH
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about in other Ayah in Al Qari'ah verse 8 to 11:
But as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be light, He will have his home in Hawiyah (pit, i.e. Hell). And what will make you know what it is? (It is) a hot blazing Fire! (Al-Qari'ah 101:8-11)
-Angels who are keeping watch over Al Hawiyah are called Al Zabaniyah
- These Angels have hands that are made of IRON
The Scholars of Tauheed also mention that inside the 6th Gate of Hell: Al Sa'eer there resides Scorpions and Snakes.
Our topic today is not the description of the HELLFIRE; hence, we are not going into details about HELL
AYAH 32
كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ
Nay, and by the moon, (Al-Muddaththir 74:32)
-The Moon is very important to the Muslims because we follow the LUNAR CALENDER. and Kaffar use sonar calendar.
-We use the Moon to commence our fast in the month of
Ramadan
-We also use the Moon to celebrate Eid Ul Fitr.
Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Fast when you see it (the new moon) and break the fast when you see it. If it is cloudy, then make Sha'ban complete with thirty days." [Al-Bukhari (1909) and Muslim (1081)]
-If we do not see the Moon because of Cloud Cover we consider Sha'baan to have 30 full days and then begin to fast.
-Some Scholars say that every country should follow the sighting of the Moon in their own locality.
-Where as other Scholars say that the whole world should follow the Moon Sighting in MAKKAH
-Every year the Muslims have two EIDS
-because the Scholars have differed on this issue
-The more accurate opinion is to follow the Moon of MAKKAH in order to unite the UMMAH OF MUHAMMAD (ﷺ)
-Because we begin fasting with the sighting of the Moon and end our fasting with the sighting the Moon, the evil Christians print pamphlets claiming that Muslims worship the Moon.
We refute the lie of the Christians with the following AYAH of SURAH FUSSILAT
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) said in the Quran Surah Fussilat ayah 37:
And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him. (Fussilat 41:37)
AYAH 33
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
And by the night when it withdraws, (Al-Muddaththir 74:33)
The Night is important to Muslims because ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about the Night in many Ayahs in the Holy Quran.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) even commanded us to seek refuge from the night, because people use the night to perpetrate evil deeds
Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about in the Quran Surah An Naba Verse 9 to 11:
And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness) And have made the day for livelihood. (An-Naba 78:9-11)
The purpose of the night is for the Muslim to take rest, and the purpose of the day is for the Muslim to earn his livelihood
AYAH 34
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ
And by the dawn when it brightens, (Al-Muddaththir 74:34)
The Dawn is SUB'AH and it's; called Salat Al Fajr. However, the Dawn ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is speaking about here is the SALATUL AL DUHAA
Therefore, after you complete praying your Salat Al Fajr, you stay in your place and after the break of dawn you pray Salat Al Duhaa
According to the Hanbali Madhab the Salat Al Duhaa and Salat Al Ishraaq are the same thing, you may pray from 2 to 8 Rakah for Salat Al Duhaa.
Abu Hanifa said that Salat Al Duhaa and Salat are Ishraaq are two different Salah, however the correct opinion is the Hanbali view
AYAH 35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ
Verily, it (Hell, or their denial of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , or the Day of Resurrection) is but one of the greatest calamities. (Al-Muddaththir 74:35) Mushin Khan
To Deny the Hell Fire or to Deny the Prophet hood of Muhammad (ﷺ) is one of the greatest calamities because those who deny HELL will end up dwelling in it for ETERNITY
AYAH 36
نَذِيرًا لِلْبَشَرِ
A warning to mankind, (Al-Muddaththir 74:36)
AYAH 37
لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by committing sins), (Al-Muddaththir 74:37)
- Mankind has been given a Choice to GO FORWARD by doing HALAL
or
LANGUISH BEHIND by doing HARAAM
AYAH 38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, (Al-Muddaththir 74:38)
Every person is a pledge for what he has earned.
This Ayah means that you and your deeds cannot be separated.
Mankind will be judged and then decompensate according to their DEEDS
Hadith
Qudsi 17:
On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him) is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord (may He be glorified) is that He said: O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other that blame no one but himself. {It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah)}
Your DEEDS will be accepted if two conditions are found, if they were done with the right intention and if they were performed according to the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ)
AYAH 39
إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ
Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); (Al-Muddaththir 74:39)
Those on the RIGHT mentioned in the above AYAH are the companions of PARADISE
And when ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) speaks about those on the LEFT, they are the companions of the HELLFIRE
AYAH 40
فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, (Al-Muddaththir 74:40)
This is an example of the beautiful Quranic Language
AYAH 41
عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
About Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will say to them): (Al-Muddaththir 74:41)
The people of PARADISE will inquire about the people of the HELLFIRE
The people of Paradise will see a man in Hell, and ask him why he is in Hell
when he was their teacher in the Dunya. The man will reply, saying he would tell people to do Halal but himself would do haram in secret
Usamah (RA) heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying: 'A man will be brought and put in the hell fire and he will circumambulator (go round and round) in the hell fire like a donkey of a (flour-grinding mill), and all the people of the hell fire will gather around him and will say to him, 'O so-and-so! Didn't you use to order others for Al-Ma'roof (Islamic monotheism and all that is good) and forbid them from Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief, and all that is evil)?' That man will say, 'I used to order others to do Al-Ma'roof (Islamic monotheism and all that is good) but myself never used to do it, and I used to forbid others from Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief, and all that is evil) while I myself used to do Al-Munkar'" {Sahih Al Bukhari 92 hadith 49} & {Trans Sahih Al Bukhari Vol 9 book 88 number 218}
AYAH 42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ
"What has caused you to enter Hell?" (Al-Muddaththir 74:42)
AYAH 43
قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers). (Al-Muddaththir 74:43)
AYAH 44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ
"Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor); (Al-Muddaththir 74:44)
- The Hanbalis use Ayah 43 as their Hujjah if you do not pray you are a KAAFIR.
- When the people did not pray, they did not give Allah ((سبحانه وتعالىٰ)) His right.
- When the people did not pay their Zakat, they did not give the people their right
AYAH 45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ
"And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. (Al-Muddaththir 74:45)
AYAH 46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
"And we used to belie the Day of Recompense. (Al-Muddaththir 74:46)
AYAH 47
حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ
"Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." (Al-Muddaththir 74:47)
AYAH 48
فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ
So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. (Al-Muddaththir 74:48)
- Those who do not agree with the Hanbalis about being a Kaafir if you do not pray argue that the people who end up in SAKR are those committed four offences, that is they did not pray, they did not pay zakat, they ridicule the Deen and they deny the last day.
- These people say you must commit all four offences go to the
AL SAQAR
- The Hanbalis refute them by saying that the first thing ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) will account for on
the LAST DAY is the SALAH
- The correct opinion is that of the HANBALI madhab because of SURAH
But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know. (At-Tawbah 9:11)
- Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) put down three conditions in order to accept converts in DEEN, they must repent, pray Salah and pay Zakat.
فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ
"Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." (Al-Muddaththir 74:47)
- YAQEEN in Arabic is certainty. The word Yaqeen in this AYAH means DEATH
- ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) uses the word Yaqeen to describe DEATH because every single one of us will DIE
Verily, you (O Muhammad
SAW) will die and verily, they (too) will die.
(Az-Zumar 39:30)
- Our journey in this life is from the WOMB to the TOMB. And we cannot escape it. We were alone in the Womb, and we will be alone in the Tomb
AYAH 48
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
So, no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. (Al-Muddaththir 74:48)
- In order for you to gain the intercession of Muhammad (ﷺ) you need to establish your SALAH.
- The child who dies before puberty will be allowed to intercede for his Muslim parents
AYAH 49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? (Al-Muddaththir 74:49)
Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember? (Al-Jathiyah 45:23)
- People ignore the admonition of ALLAH (سبحانه
وتعالىٰ), because some people worship their evil
and corrupted desires instead of ALLAH (سبحانه
وتعالىٰ)
- It is very difficult for the Mushrikeen to practise the ISLAM that we are inviting them to because they are addicted to their evil and corrupted desires.
and make no divisions in it (religion) (i.e. various sects in religion). Intolerable for the Mushrikun , is that to which you (O Muhammad ﷺ) call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience. (Ash-Shura 42:13)
- They are addicted to every Haram under the Heavens
AYAH 50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ
As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. (Al-Muddaththir 74:50)
AYAH 51
فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ
Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey (Al-Muddaththir 74:51)
- The Mushrikeen are running away from GUIDANCE like a donkey being chased by a Lion.
- The part of the guidance that they are running away from in the SHARIA
AYAH 52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُنَشَّرَةً
Nay, everyone of them desires that he should be given pages spread out (coming from Allah with a writing that Islam is the right religion, and Muhammad ﷺ has come with the truth from Allah the Lord of the heavens and earth, etc.). (Al-Muddaththir 74:52)
And when there comes to them a sign (from Allah) they say: "We shall not believe until we receive the like of that which the Messengers of Allah had received." Allah knows best with whom to place His Message. Humiliation and disgrace from Allah and a severe torment will overtake the criminals (polytheists, sinners, etc.) for that which they used to plot. (Al-An'am 6:124)
- These Kaafirs want to get special treatment before they embrace Islam.
AYAH 53
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ
Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). (Al-Muddaththir 74:53)
AYAH 54
كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ
Nay, verily, this (Qur'an) is an admonition, (Al-Muddaththir 74:54)
AYAH 55
فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ
So, whosoever will (let
him read it), and receive admonition (from it)!
(Al-Muddaththir 74:55)
AYAH 56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ
And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). (Al-Muddaththir 74:56)
Allah said in the Quran Surah At Takwir verse 29
And you will not,
unless (it be) that Allah wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and
all that exists). (At-Takwir 81:29)
